INSURANCE CONVENTION. QEIED DAY'S PROCEEDINGS—FINAL ADJOURE- MENT. * Atthe opening of the Insurance Convention yester- ‘aay Mr. Murray, of the German-American Company of Wew York, presented a resolution, which was passed, giving the thanks of the Board to the Automatic Signal felegraph Company and recommending the Executive Committee to earnostly consider the value of the in- sraments, with a view to some action. A communication was read by the President from the New York Stock Exchange, in which it was stated ‘that the Governing Committee of that body had decided ‘that an adjournment from July 1 to July 5 should take place, in order that the Centennial might be properly celebrated, and recommending the National Board of Fire Underwriters to do the same thing. A resolution to the effect that as far as practicable this should be done was adopted, and a recommendation to the local beards throughout the country was made of the same tenor. The following gentlemen were announced by the President as the Advisory Committee of filteen for the ensuing year:—H. H. Lampert, chairman; L. J Hendee, 8. P. Blagden, 8. Crowell, T. J, Chard, G, T. Cram, W. H. Ross, D. W. G. Skilton, W. 8. Denny, J. ‘W. Davenport, H. H. Hall, H, A. Howe, R. J. Smith and E, C. Rouse. Aresolution was then passed that the mayors of cities and towns throughout the United States should ‘de adaressed by the Board in regard to the use of fire- works on the coming celebration of the Centennial of our national independence, and recommending the is- suance of proclamations of warning ana the making of extra provisions for the suppression of fires. A communication from Alfred G, Baker, President of the Franklin Fire Insurance Company of Philadelphia, ‘was read and ordered to be placed on the minutes. An invitation, causing much amusement among the mem- bers, was read from a firm of photographers, offering to take the pictures of the members, singly or im groups, and suggesting as the place ‘Terrace Garden or some other place of proper elevation,”’ Mr. WaLcorr introduced a resolution which caused considerable discussion, and in which some personal feeling was evoked, declaring thathe Secretary of the Board should be ex-officio a member of the Executive Committes, Many members spoke to this resolution, and Mr, KE. Alliger, the Secretary of the Board, begged its withdrawal, but gave notice he shoul: move’ a reso- luvin that after this year such officer should be a mem~- ber of sald committor, Motion withdrawn. Mr. CROWELL said the rate of comm:ssion, which by aJaw of the Nationa! Board is fixed at 16 pot cent, ‘was not inaintained or respected in some of the com- panies in the large cities. The law is flagrantly vioiated,* and he therefore moved that the matter be «pecially referred to the Executive Committee, who should re- port at the next meeting of the Board. Adopted Mr. Cuarp, of the Fireman's Fund, of San Franeisco, complained that investigatione of abuses, under rating, &e., mn various companies were not promptly investi- gated ed special agents, and moved that any deviations from the proper tariff! be promptiy looked into by the Advisory Commities of Filteen, and especially that the bureaus at Now York, Cincinnati and Chicago be urged to increased promptitude and vigt.ance, Adopted.
