Humphrey, the owner of the trotting horse Judge Fullerton. St Julien, it will be Yemembered, came on the turf for the first time late last summer, and after trotting six races, all of which he won, he closed the season with a record of | 2:223¢ at Springfield, Mass. St Julien was bred | by Mr, Dunning, who sold him to Mr. Ga | way for $625. St Julien was by Volunteer, dam by | Heary Clay, granddam a maro of Arab blood, and to | which much of his fine finish is duc. His début oc- | curred in his six-year-old form at Poughkeepsie August 4, upon which occasion he defeated eleven starters in the second, third and fourth heats, in 2:30, 2:26%, 2:30\4, At the same meeting, three days thereafter, a field of twelve succumbed to his prowess, Josing the third heat, bat Maer the first, second and fourth, in 2:26%,' 2:30, 2:26. At ‘Springfield, Ang st 24, res beat eight starters, “three straight eats, tm 2:29%, 2 2:29. At the same place, three days after, he detested @ fine field. by ats the third, fourth and fifth heats, in 2:22%, 1 2:27, At ‘Hartford, on August 81 and September 2 he won both of his engagements. in the first event of that meet dmg he beat eight starters, in 2:25, 9:26, 2:26%, and tn the second race defeated Sister. Great Eastern and Goldfinder, in 2:25%, St. Julien won in the six races $8,400. It is ‘supposed on account of A. 0. Hickok being’ at the saie that he ts here to take St. Julien to California. St. Julien was not the only fast colt that has been developed while in the pos- session of Mr. Galway. It will be recollected that in 1874 he brought out Rutledge, and, after trotting him ‘a few races—all of which he won—he gold the colt to | William Vanderbilt for $6,000. The profit on the two colts to Mr. Gaiway has been $35,000, and if he had Dacked his horses at all in their races he could have | cleared twice that amount; but the gentleman does not mye the pool box and merely trots aud ruus orses for the love of the sport. The Maryland Jockey Club will not adopt the altered weights of the American Jockey Club the coming sea- | as there is a division of opinion among Southern Serhan nad chan: aogeaniora of ihn enh eal in subject, and they preter to await the result of the experiment on the Northern courses before making the change. ‘The weights for the coming seasun will be as bercto- fore—viz., in stakes exclusively for two-year-olds, 100 Ibs.; for three-year-olds, 110 Ibs.; in steeplechase Stakes the weight for three-year-olds will be 130 Ibs. ; for four-year-olds, 148 ibs. ; fivo-year-olds, 154 ibs, and six-year-olds and upward, 158 /bs.
