16 TROTTING. A DISAGREEABLE DAY AT FLEETWOOD. ‘Tre announcement that the two trots postponed last Baturday at Fleetwood Park and that two “play or pay’ matebi re sure to be trotted yesterday brought ‘out full delegations of the regular Aabitués, notwith- standing the wet and dreary character of the weather. ‘The track was deep and heavy and at the end of the afiernoon’s sport looked sore like a Louisiana swamp than atrotting track. The first race decided was the | unfinished wagon race between Hardroad and Missouri Boy, each of them having two heats won, The talont played Missouri Boy for a winner, but were caught wrong, as John Murphy managed to steer Hardroad bome first, The second of the unfinished races was that between Murphys Steve Maxwell, Splan’s Andrew, Phillips’ Lady Woods, atter. son's Modesty and Manee’s Harry Irwin. Maxwell was the favorite over the field at the odds of 20to 6, but after a hard contest, the best he could do was to make a dead beat with Lady Woods, the judges distancing Harry Irwin for runing. Nothwithstanding that it was evident that Maxwell was not at home in the mud, he contigued the favorite for the ixth and seventh heats, both of which Lady Woods won, after which Andrew became the favorite, many realizing that a8 Maxwell could not win the race Splan would have to win itwith Andrew, which fact was clearly demonstrated, for Mr. Splan, having won the first heat, let bis horse’s head and quietly made his money safe by winning the eighth and ninth heate, which give him the race, ‘The “play or pay’? matches were—frst, a mile and repeat between Miss Drew and Henrietta, which Miss Drew won; the other was best three in five, between Jim and Grace, which the gelding won in three straight heats, SUMMARY. ¥ Fiextwoop Pars, New York. —Trotting Saturday and Tuesday, Decumber 4 and 7, 1835, Match $200, mile heats, best 3 in 4, to wi J. Archer, had four winning mounts on November 22 at Warwick. This brings his score during the present season to 170 wins, George Fordham’s highest was 166. A remarkable circumstance in connection with Archer js that he has been at the head of the list of winning jockeys for three successive years, His ex- loits im the saddle the past season have been marvel- jous, although he has not rede the winner of any very important race, still it is a great compliment to _ hii abilities as jockey that he should have bad more than 500 mounts, and, with a first master like Lord Falmouth, it is not unbikely that the highest honors the turf can afford will fail to his share, At present Archer stands in the poai- | tion of being the youngest Jockey that ever rode a Two | Thousand winner, his success on AUlantic lust year giv- jog him this distinction, while, aithough he is not yet out of his “teens,” be bas ridden an Oaks winner on | Spinaway last spring, whose doings enable Lord Fal- mouth to take his place at the head of the list of win- ning owners for 1875, ENGLISH COACHING NOTES. A four-horse coach is likely to be run next spring be- tween Leamington and Stratford-on-Avon. If the | arrangements can be carricd out it is proposed to run it from the Regent Hotel, Leamington, through Welles- bourne, four days a week. Considering the almost un- ¢xampled scenery on this route, the allurements of Leamington and Stratford-on-Avon and the excellence of the roads, there can be little dovbt of the coach not only being a financial success, but also of its eventually running daily, The Regent is always so full that this excellent hyiel will be able to tind ai! the passengers the coac y, and a good team starting from and arriving at its doors will add not a little to the at- fractions cf the parade, HAND BALL, NEW YORK AND BROOKLYN MATCHESS—TEN GAMES PLAYED, Mr. Casey, of Brookiyn, and Mr. Burke, of Philadelphia, as reported in the Hxraup, having intensified the interest in the play with the experts present from Philadelphia, New York and Brooklyn, a series of | friendly matches were arranged for, and yesterday some very fine games were played in both Brooklyn and New York.
