THE SPEAKERSHIP, It is said that Ohio democrats are all opposed to Mr, Borr,.—Washington Correspondence Cincinnati Gusette re f py who arrived from the Southwest to-day Feports that three democrats from Arkansas and three more from Texas are for Randall. Lamar, of Missis- sipp!, and Senator Gordon are throwing their influence for Randall, and this will have a very considerable efect,—Washington Correspondence Cincinnati Gazette (re.) Kerr is reported te have said that he was in favor of dnflation, but that be has a right to change his mind, At occurs to us that some of the democratic members of Congress may change their minds as to Kerr,—Cin- Ginnati Enquirer (dem.) % The friends of Randall, at this writing, claim ninety ‘Votes on the first ballot. The Kerr men claim seventy- five for their champion, and the adherents of Mr. Cox modestly rate their strength at sixty-five, As there are only 170 odd members who wiil go into the demo- ©ratic caucus some of theso claims must be extraya- ant.— Washington Correspondence Cincinnatt Enquirer (dem.) Governor Hendricks is here, but the reports which have been circulated that he comes to exert his influ- nce in the contest for the Speakership are untrue,— ‘Washington Correspondence Cincinnati Enquirer (dem.) The chances are that Randall or Kerr will be the moxt Speaker. The former has the support of the Ponnsylvania dolegation solid—that is, the democratic portion of it—while Kerr is opposed by some of the members from his own State®Scranton (Pa.) Republi- can (rep.) Kerr’s support is of a character that may prove ‘transitory and leave him in a protracted struggle. — Wasnington Correspondence Baltimore Gazette (dem.) Mr. Wood’s getting out of the way has sent Randall stock up amazingly. The supporters of Mr. Kerr are Jess sanguine than they were last night.— Washington Correspondence Baltimore American (rep.) ' We think that Mr, Randall would make a good Speaker—better than Mr. Wood, who is reported to have declined in his favor, or Mr. Kerr, who is to some extent an invalid, or Mr. Cox, who ts every man’s friend except his own.— Washington Republican (rep.) Mr. Kerr is not likely to be Speaker. His own sec- tlon does not sustain him.—Lezington (Ky.) Dispatch (dem.) What we want now, however, is a leader, a gallant, bold and experienced man, who is known to be abovo @nd beyond all sectional prejudice—a general in the House of Reprosentatives, who has the confidence of the party everywhere, and who has the capacity to ‘command and to muster and marshal all the troops at his disposal, That man is Samuel J. Randall,—Rich- mond Whig (dem.) Samuel J. Randall is the true Northern representative of Southern sentiment, We isa man for reunion, His record is national, not sectional. He has always stood by the constitution, The South owes him a debt of ratitude, and she has now the opportunity to express hor appreciation of his services. We trust that every Southern democrat and conservative will support him.—Richmond Whig (dem.) Mr. Randall has beeu consistently opposed to soft money heresies throughout, and while he has not been rampant and yehement—or where would be his chance for the Speakership ?—his record on the question ap- pears to be quite as good as that presented by any of his fellow members and decidedly better than most of thom.— Wilmington (Del.) Commercial (rep.) Mr. Kerr is the chiefest favorite of Tilden. Whether the position of Mr, Kerr be the result of conviction or interest, he is not the person at this crisis to be mado Bpeaker of the House by the votes of Western and Bouthorn democrats,—Correspondence Cincinnati En- quirer (dem.) It was not only at the close of the last Congress, but during several of the late Congresses, that the atten- tion of the country was called to the fact tnat night fod day Mr, Randail was in the van of the House ‘opposing and resisting subsidies and all other schemes of Treasury plunder.—Correspondence Cincinnati En- quirer (dem.) Mr. Randall is the only one of the four candidates who was in sympathy with the Ohio democracy during the late contest for democratic principles and the pre. servation of the democratic party. New York was in open alliance with tho republicans, while the treacher- ous World was scattered through our State giving con- fidence to the republicans by declaring that Mr. Kerr was against us.—Correspondence Cincinnati Enquirer (dem.) Mr, Randall is the peer of either of the other gentle- men in legislative skill and ability, and possesses the elements which make up the character of the success- ful cla a eames Cincinnati Enquirer (dem.) The impression prevails that Randall has the lead, — Washington (Nov, 80) Correspondence Philadelphia Ledger (ind) * To-night Randall's friends claim that he will be elected on the wecond ballot.— Washington (Nov. 30) Correspondence Philaaelphia Press (rep.) Large number of arrivals to-night. Chances favor- ing Randall.—Washington (Nov. $9) Correspondence Philadelphia Inquirer. The Randall party charge, with a great deal of effact, that the Kerr party are working in the interest of Governor Tilden’s New York Ring, as they term it.— Washington Correspondence Philadelphia Times (ind.) Mr. Randall’s more moderate friends say to-night that they do not expect to clect their candidate on the first ballot, but that they are perfectly satisfied that ho will be elected by a subsequent vote; that he now has eighty votes that will be cast for him on the first ballot; that they are not talking at random, as they have letters and written vouchers for every vote that they claim; that the withdrawal of Mr. Wood from the contest greatly simplified matters and added twelve ‘votes to Mr. Randall's strength.— Washington (Nov. 30) Correspondence Philadelphia Temes (ind.)
