A report found its way into somo of the papers yes- terday to the effect! that the Central Pacific Railway | Company was preparing a now issue of bonds. On in- quiry it was found that the statement is a mistake. The company is veither making nor offering any new bonas. From San Francisco the report was circulated that the government was making heavy purchases of bul- fon. To this a contradiction comes trom Washington, which states that no recent purchases have been made, and that none will be made until the mines get into full operation again. ‘Tho government has suflicient on hand for some time to come. Chicago contributed the announcement that the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company had uurchased the Kockford, Rock Island and St, Lous ilroad of H, Osterberg, representative of the German bondholders. This statement was also found to be ‘without any foundation in fact BOWLES BROTHERS’ PROPOSED RESUMPTION. A recent despatch from London announced the fact that an application was made in the Court of Bank- ruptey for a contirmation of the scheme of settlement arranged among the creditors of Bowles Brothers, in- volving the amalgamation of all the assets into a com- mon fund and the resumption of business by Charles Bowles, under the style of “Bowles Brothors & Co,’? This funding, plan, {t appears, was devised to avoid the e: of separate liquidations in different coun- tries. me proposes to issue for tho amount of each claim, with interest to November 9, 1873, ten year four per cent guaranteed bonds, and to pay cighteen per cent in cash as soon as possible. For the balance, should the new firm of Bowles Brothers & Co. ‘tail to maxe the promised payments, the necessary amount is to be paid the bondholders from and to the extent of the guarantee fund. The entire liabilities have been estimated at about $500,000, of which about one-half bas been proved in this country. The Register in London made an order subject to the production of a deed embodying the terms of the ar- rangement and the form of the proposed bond. This deed ig now on its way to London, having been for- warded by special messenger.
