Stocks to-day were again lower, Yet those who have observed the paragraph in this column, which records their daily advance and decline, need not be reminded of the fact that this condition is due entirely to natural causes, ‘THE PRICES to-day fluctuated widely. The selling movement was directed largely against the non-dividend paying West- ern ghares, and the largest’ decline was on thee. Northwestern common declined from"87 to 33%, pre- ferred from 5134 to 46. St. Paul from 3334 to 204, pre- ferred from 61% to 59. Lake Shore from 53% to 5174. Ohio, 15% to 15, Missouri Pacific declinéd from 20 to 18, but afterward recovered to 19%. New Jersey Cen- tral rose from 100% to 10314, and Delaware, Lackawanna and Western from 11734 to 117. Michigan Central fell off from 643% to 53%. Rock Island from 102% to 101%, and Hannibal and St. Joseph from 163, to 16. Union Pacific advanced from 6234 to 63%, but subsequently reacted, Pacific Mail rose to 863, and afterward fell off to 343. Various rumors were circulated to aid the downward movement, some of which concerned savings banks, but when it was ascer- tained that many of these were unfounded a rally took place, and the market closed firmer, ‘The greatest improvement was in St. Paul preferred, which advanced from 5814 to 61%. Northwest prefer- red came next, rising trom 46 to 48, St. Paul common recovered from 29% to 31}g, Northwest common from 8324 to 35, Lake Shore from 51% to 52%, Union Pacific from 6234 to 63%, Rock Island from 101% to 102\, New Jersey Central from 10254 to 10334, Pacifle Mail from 9434 to 35, Western Union from 737% to 74% and Ohio from 15 to 1544.
