On these ap- | plications only $120,000 in coin has been deposited, for | which transfer orders have been issued. The Treasurer | says he will only issue transfers for a total of $1,500,000, | There appears to be some difficulty on the part of | those making applications for using the coin for deposit, The Treasury now holds $374,581,762 In bonds to secure the national bank circulation and $18,792,200 to secure public deposits. The national | bank note circulation outstanding bas decreased | $3,000,000 during the past week and now amounts to $346,085,018, of which amount $2,640,000 are gold notes. Despatches trom San Francisco are to the effect that ‘no official statement has yet been made of the Sondition of the Bank of California, The directors applied to Flood & O’Brien on the day of the failure for relief, and Offered to present to the firm the entire paid up capital stock of the bank—namely, $5,000,000; also $1,500,000 in the bank, and, in addition, $1,000,000, to be as- sessed to the stockholders—in all $7,500,000— Provided that Flood & O'Brien would, for this consideration, assume the liabilities of the bank, The proposition being declined the bank had to suspend. There is no doubt that the liabilities of the bank are $14,000,000, and the available aaseta not far (rom $7,000,000, which will shrink considerably before they can be cashed Private despatches indig cate the existence of a more favorable feeling, and \t is not believed that a further transfer of gold will ve roquired. The reports from the interior ot the State are said to be more favorable, and the appre- dhonsions connected with the opening of the toarket are not fortified by recent changes. 1 is @ gratifying incident to relate that « lle two of our New York banks were prepared to aid ‘dt correspondents on the Pacific slope the latter re- yovted that they were strong in metallic reserve and vould saccessfully resist the pressure upon them and | «re safe, The London morning Standard, in ite Gnvncial column, says that the circular notes of the Gank of California are somewhat largely beid by travel- fers, but they may soon be paid under arrangements now pending The annual statement of the Anglo- California Bank shows gross protite of £61,319, less charges here and at San Francisco, leaving net profits of the year, including £3,010 carried forward last year, of £41,398, The dividend for the year is 9 per cent free | 600 Pae Mail 88.b e.53 100 do. e $2000 Missouri 6’s,1b. 102 100 shs West Un Tel... 2000 Brooklyn 103, 2100 de... * 3 $000 NJ Ce i) Vad 83) 2000 *30 ea Facgoix 8 Bou0 N JO 6 Adams Ex..b c.opg 102 4000 NJ C 100 NYC 4H BRbesd 104 2000 C & N 100 Erie BR......,..be 16 Eee ae ental 10000 Mich 600 4000 Ma St 200 2000 Con Pi 500 7000 "do. 700 do. 1000 U Pac 100 do, 6000 Un Pac 40 do. 2000 N ¥ Oei 100 do. 5000 Cley. 900 do 5000 Harle: 1000 &NW 4000 Del & 100 ‘do, 10 she Bk 100 do. 90 do 100 CANW 50 Fourth 100" do. 5 Bank of 100 do. 100 Ati & Pac Tel. 100 Chi 4 B { 700 Pac Mail 88...°b0 100 "do, 100 do. 984 200 do wo do 88% (27 Chia Ai 200 do. 88% 200M a SP j 400 do 8:34 200 | 800 do B85g LUO | | 300 do 38% 300 i 200 W Oi 83 100 600 8533 300 300 do. 833g 600 700 do. 83% 200 300 do. 855g 34 ode e's 7 do. 83% 10 70 8359 1 300 83 | 84 83% | 800 Se 88: A BEFORE CALL—i2:30 P, M. shy Spee en. Cortox.—The demand for spot cotton was Nmited and the sales were confined to a few lots taken exclusively for spin- Bing purposes. Exporters were not in the market, the private advices from Liverpool being tamer both for spot cot- ton and arrivals. The fact is that exporters would rather prefer to buy August notices on the basis of 14ie. & 14 11-326, which was to-day’s price for that month, than buy cotton at the broker's office at 14%%0. The tion of spot cotton is very poor indeed, and low middling grades com- mand extreme prices. The market ts quoted quiet and easier in tone. Future deliveries opened easier and continued so all day, with insignificant fluctuations, closing quiet at the quo- tations marked below, which are on the average about 1-32c. cheaper as compared with the closing prices of yesterday. We must add, however, that August was an exception to this and closed ic. better than yesterday, After ‘Change sales of $50 vales wore made, including 150 for export, The of. ficial closing prices were, na, follows:—Auguys, 14 11 ide, « L44e.; Sepiember, 13 S1-B2c, « 14e.; October. p23 November, 13 19-34e, ; December, Wide Iie: iat Is tiie a 19 aoiue jfebruary, 18 20-820. 0 13 15. hy May, T4Xc. & 14 9-166. 14 1d160. a 14%. tion in force September sand on upland cotton in store Fanning in quality not more thén balf ¢ grade above. or be- the grade quoted Ordinary. 12%e. 13%e.: strict good ordi 14igé., low infing ie jin: middling, 15%%e. middling, 16%.
