THE FLOODS. Adiitional Reports of the Overflow of Southern and Western Rivers. FLOUR ADVANCED IN PRICE. Considerable Damage to the Crops. OHIO AND INDIANA. CINCINNATI, Auguat 3, 1875. A special despatch to the Times from Chillicothe says the Tain continues and the food gains strength. The canal broke below the city and swept 5,000 busheis of wheat into the river. The people living in the bottom lands are moving ‘their families, fearing an inundation. At Ironton the Ohio ts rising five inches an hour, and also tising rapidly at Cincinnati, where it nas already wvaded the lower stories of houses on Water pone and bids fair to go a3 bigh as ever known ore. ‘A special despateh to thé same paper from New Alvany, Ind., says the trains on the New Albany and Chicago Rullroad were taken of to-day at Gosport. No trains are rupuing on any of the roads, and no mulls have arrived simce lust Saturday, THE FLOOD IN THE WABASH. LAFAYETTE, Ind., August 3, 1875. The flood in the Wabash is more than a foot above the high water mark o! 1853, and severa; inches higher than ever before since the settle- ment of the county. All the tributaries have been running out and the low ground is all overflowed. In many places the river is from three to five miles wide. The damage !s incalculable, and great suffering must resuls to the teuants op tne low lauds, Whose all 18 Swept away. Our city is located on high ground, and but sugnt damage bas been experienced except to manu- factories and miils, The destruction of the Wabash and Erie Canal, between here and Fort Wayue, is complete. It is broken in @ buuared places. The canal ana river have | been on a level for forty-eight hours, the water of the river rushing through | the latter and running over the banks from one to tue other at all low places. This will be a terribie blow to the people of the State. It is 1m- possible to estimate any more accurately the acreage submerged. The Louisville, New Albany aud Chicago Railroad 1s much damaged between here and battle Ground. The apner ratiroads are alright, That portion of the City located on the West oank of the Wabash has been cut off for two days by the nigh water overflowing the bridge aud levees, and communication is only kept open by boats, The river bas fallen about two and a hall nehes since seven o’ciock this morning and 4s atill very slowly receding. During the past twenty-four hours tne Onio River has risen rapidly at Pittsburg, Cincinnati ana Louisville, and is now one foot above the “Danger line” at Pittsburg and one foot below at Cincinnati and Louisville. The Monongatela River is eight feetand nine inches above the “Danger Une” at Néw Geneva, but is vow falling. THR MISSISSIPPI RIVER has risen nine inches at St. Louis, where itis put two inches below the “Danger line.” Jt nas risen eleven inches at Cairo, waere it is three feet and eight incnes above the “Danger tine.” The Cumoerland River bas fallen at Nashvilie. ‘The Missouri and Ked rivers have remaimed sta tionary. Sergeant Vredenburgh and Roundsman Min- neck, of the Nineteenth precinct, were the first to discover the fire. Immediately after telegraphing the alarm these officers bur.
