THE DISAGREEMENT. — Feeling the Pulse of Pub- lic Opinion. FRANK MOULTON DEFIANT. Hoe Wants To Be Prosecuted by “the Real Conspirators.” VERDICT OF THE PRESS. The Entire Public Wearied of the Scandal. Mr, and Mrs, Beecher were forced to hold a morning levee yesterday. A perfect rush of con- gratulatory visitors besieged the entrauce to the Plymouth pastor's residence on Columbia Heignts. All the visitors were pleasuntly reesived aad cc- tertaincd, Mr, Beecher med a8 boy and enthusiastic ss of old, Neither the trial nor the verdict appears to have aff:ctea him in the least, Despite his gray hairs, he mea younger, brighter, more quick ia reparr more elasile in step than the youngest who called upon him. It seems realy as if “age cannot wither him nor custom stale 8 INFINITS VARIETY.” Mrs, Beecher, too, was in a high mood, Per- haps of all persons involved in tie scandal suit she has occupied the most unfortunate post tion; but still, at the impromptu held yesterday, the terrible ordeal through which she has passed, as far a8 was discernible, had left m0 marks upoo hercountenance. The implicit confidence she had in her husband’s innocence buoyed her uv, and enabled ner yesterday to receive the hearty congratulations of her friends withthe samo dignity and graco a8 she received them years ago, before any whisper of the scandal had been atvered, Mra, Beecuer, of course, had very little to say. There were 60 many who calle so many to clasp hor by the hand, so many to speak kind, affectionate and cheering words to her, that she found no opportunity to for any length of time without neglecting the duties of hostess, FIERCE FRANK MOULTON. Mr, Frank Moulton was found by & HERALD re- porter yesterday morning at the oMce of Morris & Pearsall, in Montague street, Brooklyn, He looked well as ever, and the calm, quiet ex- pression of his eye, coupled with that appearance of self-possession and coolness that never forsakes him, would lead a stranger to suppose that noth- ing of unusual moment or impo! e Was passing through bis mind, A little closer observation, however, soon revealed tho Jact that he felt irritated and angry. There was mo evi- ence of fear or timidity in his actions, and there was certainly no room to suppose that he elt any anxiety about ths rumorsef his intended arrest for conspiracy, On the’ contrary, mer conveyed the impression th: of more than ordinary boldness and determina- tion, perfectly conscious of being right and re- solved to force an investigation into his conauct. He was in company with some friend: engaged in discussing the result of the gr ‘when the reporter entered. On the reperter stating the ebject of his call air, Moulton & “There is nothing new to-day. Tam here watt- img to be arrested, but they don’t scem inclined to carry out their threat.” “Do you think, Mr. Moulton, that ti is any real intention to arrest you, or to proceed against you in any way om @ charge Of conspiracy?” asked the reporter, “Ido not. They dare net dott; for there ts no conspiracy except on the part of Mr. Beecher and General Tracy and their friends, I have nad nothing to do with any conspiracy. I have perjurers, and I want tosee them punished, Tacy are the real conspirators.” “Do you think Mr. Beecher’s counsel will go on against Loader and Price?” yy willletitdrop. If they haa any Intention to go on with tt they would not have got it postponed till mext Wednesday, General Tracy bes gone away to the country. This charge of conspiracy was AN IDLE THREAT Intended to catch the pubic, Butl am ready for them at any time, Iwant them togo on with ‘this charge of conspiracy, or wit a suit for libel, and then the truih willcome out, It would not take six monthsto try it andis would be for damages.” “What course do yon intend to pursue, Mr. Moulton, in case the charge of conspiracy ts let Grop, or if they don’t sustain the charge?” “L intend to prosecute them, but will be gulded by the advice of my counsel.” A gentlemen present here asked Mr. Moulton ‘who were bis counsel, and he replied tnat he could not disclore their names at present, There ‘were good reasons, he said, for withholding them. The same gentioman made some jocose alinsions to Mr. Beecher’s talk about love and forgiveness @t the Plymouth church prayer meeting on Friday eventng, and Mr. Moulton saia, shortly, “ Qon’t want either his love or forgiveness. I want to sco the perjurers punished.” “Then lam to anders:and, Mr, Moulton,” said the reporter, “that you mown to fight this thing out?” “I have come here tode ft, I want tnem to ar- rest me or to prosecute me, so that! may show where the real couspiracy aud (ae real perjury are, but they won't do tt.” Being asked was it true that he Dad been seen peaking to General Tracy on the street on Friday evening, and being told that some people were saying there was a reconciliation between tue, Mr. Moulton satd:— “I did meet General Tracy on the street yeater- Gay evening and spoke to him. I tola him I had come to Brooklyn to get arrested; that | wanted him to get me arrested, and that I meant to give all the help I couia to get the ‘perjurers punished, but he has gone away ana done nothing." “Whatdo you think, Mr. Moulton, of the result of the trial 7” “itis very bad, but we conld expect Iittte bet- ter. Some men on that jury would not convict Beecher, no matter what the evidence was. [ think the admussions made by the foreman and others of them, a8 published tm to-day’s papers, are very damaging to them. Carpenter admits he was a Beecher man from’ the beginning, and that motbing could change him, Thatis 4 NIOB KIND OF A JUROR, and it shows how much ought to be thonens of She jury’s action, I think the result ts bad, seeing that I know that Beecher was guilty of adultery With Mrs, Tilton, and that there was evidence enough to prove tt The jury did mot find accord- ing to the evidence," ‘Do you snink we have reached the end of the seandal suit, or will it be renewed again?” “Ldon't know. ¥ want this charge of conspiracy to be d aud waut to see ali the perjurers pi ut tcan't say how things willgo, If they bring wa that cuarge ts won’s take long to sry it.” after some farther conversation of an animpor- tant character the reporter withdrew, fully com- vinced thas Mr. Mouiton was decidedly on the ‘Warpath and likely to continue so, Mr. Moultoa went to tne District Attorney's Office yesterday afternoon, There was no one in the office at the time but a messe: His ‘was supppo: to be for the purpose of offerin, meet any process that might have been institated, Mr, Movlion Intended to leave for the country in the evening.
