Before Juage Sutherland, SENTENCES AND ACQUITTALS, George W. Edwards, @ yourh who was charged with stealing on the 2d of November $46 worth of gentieman’s underwearing apparel trom Nathaniel B. Ellis, his employer, pleaded guilty to petit lar- ceny. The prisoner was sentenced to the Penitentiary | for six montns. Christine Ne:lson pleaded guilty to an attempt | at grand larceny. The charge was that on or about the 65th of October, 1874, sbe stule a lace shawl, a silk dress and @ velvet jacket, the aggre» gate value of which was $510, belonging to the wife of Dr. Edward G. Bartlet. She took the things to Boston and pawned them for the insig- nificant sum of $15, Mr. Hummel, her counsel, tn- formed the Court that the accused had not been | long in the country and that she pawned tne goods in order to raise money to pay ber passage back to Deumark. His Honor sentenced the name- sake of the fair songstress to the State Prison ior two years, William Stevens, alias Dante! Flynn, on the 17th of March stoie $8 trom the person of Catnarine Grady. He pieaded guilty to the indictment and Was dent to the House of Refuge. Anton Eirly, @ respectable looking young man, was tried and promptly acquitted on a charge of furtively carrying a concealed weapon known as @ slungshot, in Angust last. He produced wit- besses to snow that he picked it up as he was leaving @ moonlight picnic held at Nutioual Park, and the officer swore that be voluntarily handed it by bin. BURGLARY. John Williams, who was indicted for burgiari- ously entering the stabie of Ohristopner Hays, No. 161 East Thirty-fitth street, and stealing a bearskin robe, valued at $50, pieaded guilty to an attempt at burglary in the third cegree. ‘Whe prisoner was sentenced to the State Prigon for two years and six montas, AN INGENIOUS LARCENY. Jacob A. Stoue was tried aud convicted of grana larceny vy trick and device. The proof adduced by tne prosecution was that the accused hired a room in Bleecker street for one week, for tne os- tensible purpose of using it as a real estate office, and caused an advertisement to be inserted in the Staats Zeitung for “a steady man, with $50; must speak English; easy work; good wages.” The complainant responded and gave tho pris- over $60, but on the following day the prisoner reiused to return tt ondemand, He did not like Ube appearauce of things. When taken to the station house they gave their names as Cornelius Kelly and John Quaid. At the Tombs Police Court yesterday Justice Kilbretu beld them in $1,000 bali each to answer. A CASE OF MAYHEM, About one o’ciock yesterday morning, in a saloon at No. 122 Bleecker street, Jotm Fay, of No. 156 Bieecker street, while talking to the barkeeper, dames Keiler, was attacked by one Edward Mur- ray, of No, 184 Thompson street, who, it is alleged, took Fay’s head between both his hands and bit olf a piece of bis ear. Murray, who was arrested, was arraigned before Judge Kasmire yesterday and was committed tn $2,000 bail to answer. The complainant, John Fay, and the witness of the assault, James Keller, were sent to the House of Detention, VIOLATION OF THE EXCISE LAW. Joseph O'Connor, of No. 948 Broadway, was charged with selling liquor without a license by Daniel Jackson, of No. 500 Third avénue. New York and | Hudson River Railroad Company—Error to the Cireuit Court for the Northern District of New | York.—In this case judgment of $594,002 89 was the State of New York for the recovery of internal revenue taxes on the Interest certificates issued by the New York Central Railroad Company, in December, 1869, before its consolidation with the Hudson River road.
