WALL STRERT, } SaTcrRDay, Feb, 27—6 P. M. The stock market to-day aid uot reflect im- provement. Prices were erratic, irregular and Strongly suggestive of personal manipulation, Dealings were confined chiefly to brokers, who, Watching opportunities on the floor of the Stock Exchange, could make their fractional profits, Outside operators, however, were debarred from Speculation by their inability to determine be- ‘ween real and artificial doubt as to the purpose of leading capitaists, The tone of the market was not strongly sug- | gestive of permanently higher prices, aud tnere were few wio lost their judgment because ofthe advance of one or two stocks. The down- ward tendency has been sherply defined, and until commerce comes to the aid of speculation there seems to be no good reason why men shouid @eceive themselves by investment in impover- hed securities, The speculative dealings to-day were comparatively large, amounting to about 198,000 shares, Which may be divided as follows among the principal stocks:—New York Central nd Hudson, 160; Erie, 11,200; Lake Shore, 23,000; Northwestern, 46,200; do. preferred, 5,300; Rock Asiana, 1,500; Pacific Mall, 49,200; St. Paul, 13,300; do, preierred, 1,500; Onto, 5,900; Western Union, 28,400; Wabash, 5,900; Union Pacific, 14,100; C., @. and L.c., 100, HIGHEST AND LOWEST PRICES.
