Possibly the corner has been turned and we are on the eve of substantial improvement; but. when it is remembered that the street 1a poor; shat operators have lost enormous sums during the last year and are disheartened; that universal distrust prevails, both outside and inside the stock market, with reference to real and prospec- tive values; that the bulk of the speculation is within the control of a few moneyed men, who have it in thei power, by: persistent induences, to advance or break the price of almost any security on the Board, the reason will be apparent why so lew ale willing to cross swords with Fate and so wany are waiting jor @ more settled, healthy and trustworthy condition of affairs, The course of Congress on the finance question, the improve- ment of trade, loss or gain anywhere in the commercial world, are incidents that do not just now enter toto the caiculattons of Wall street or move mén to FRESH. They scem rather to be waiting on the silent, sapping, undefmioing process that has been going on—waiting for the end, waiting for the bucket to touch bottom, Once satisfd that this point has been reached they will inaugurate achange.
