Of the market to-day, little more need be sald than that it obeyed the induences of the hour, and aiter trembling awhile as if undecided whether to advance or recede, finally, and near tne close, developed considerable firmness. Prices were generally put up, and for the momenta better feeling was established, several among the recent bears being reported as strongly instrumentai tn effecting the change, and desirous of establishing ® higher basis, THE RANGE OF PRICES ‘was as follows:—Western Union opened gt 79 and advanced to 79%; New York Central gained per cent; Erie ranged from 27% to 27%, and Closed at 27%; St. Paul sold at 36% a 36% a37K a 87%; Michigan Central at 88; Pacific Mail at 36% a 8734, Closing at 36%; Union Pacific opened at 34%, advanced to and closed at 35%; Lake Shore opened at 80%, byt, notwithstanding the dividend Of 3% per cent made to-day, the stock declined to 79%; the close, however, was made at 80%. RorthWest common advanced from 46% to 47%; the preferred stock closed at 603, a gain of % per cent. The range in Wabash was 19% and 184; the close was made at197. The selling rates are $4 85% a $4 8534 and $4 89% a $1 90%. Continental ex- change 1s firm. We quote Reichmarks at 95a 95% for short; cable transters, 96% a 96%, and francs on Paris, 5.14%; a 5.117%. The actual specie shipments to Europe to-day were $129,000, of which $100,000 was gold coin. THE GOLD MARKET. Wheat was in limited demand, owing to the increased frm- ness of freignts; but the market was, neverthe- less, firm and fall prices were realized for ail’ sold, the market closing quiet’but frm. Corn was in active request (part speculative), and prices ad- vanced considerably, the market leaving off Strong at the improvement. Oats were strong, with a fairdemand.
