10 NEW YORK HERALD, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 1874—QUADRUPLE SHEET. FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL The Stock Market Strong and Active. GOLD ADVANCED TO lO 1-4. Money Easy and Government Bonds Firm. AN IMPROVING BANK STATEMENT. | Watt Srreer, } SATURDAY, Nov. 7—6 P. M. The stock Market to-day continued to exhibit strength. Outside buyers presented themselves in more than usual Dumbers, and even the most persistent bears were obliged to confess that their caleulations had been changed by the new | political deel and its resultant symptoms, That coniidence in the futtre 1s being attended by an outpouring of fresh money is beyond question; that capitalists are siowing their faith in an | early improvement is a fact that can- not be doubted by those who observe and | analyze the course of investment; that | prices generally are advancing as the re- | sult of political changes, and that we are entering upon anew speculative career, are also signs of the hour. We predict nothing; but | capital seems to have assumed such voice since | the election as to leave little room tor doubt con- ceruing its purposes. The faltn of the people ia more potent than the power of the local specula- tor. Itisby no means certain that the incoming week will not show lower prices as the conse- quence of a temporary raid, yet it muy be written almost like a prophecy that within sixty or ninety | 4 days we shalisee in Wall street a scale of prices that will make every buyer jubliant who holds at present igures. THE STOCK MARKET o-day may be described as strong. The highest prices of the week were made, Compared with the close yesterday there were no losses, buton the contrary, m every instance a gain, The leaders of tue market were Union Pacific and Pacific Mail.
