FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL | :: Stocks Fluctuating and With- out Feature. THE MONEY RATE HIGHER, Gold, 110 3-8—Good Bonds of all Kinds Generally Steady. —— ‘THE PUBLIO DEBT STATEMENT. WALL STREst, MONDAY, Nov. 2-6 P.M. The stock market to-day showed considerable indecision, but the fuctuations were neither wide mor suggestive. The leader on the upward move- ‘ment was Lake Shore, which abates nothing from ‘tts firmness, although, as compared with Satur- day's quotations, it shows no gain. The highest | Price of the day was 61, the lowest. 80%; and the ‘closing 80%. The next feature was Pacific Mail, ‘which yielded to adverse reports concerning the ©ondition of the steamers Alaska and City of Weking. These caused not only considerable ‘Speculation but a sharp decline to the lowest ice of the day. Delaware, Lackawanna and estern has been steadily improving for the last fwreek, and it is eaid that the fact 1s due to good WManagement and a prospective favoravle report (Of earnings. The general tone of the market was stronger at the opening than toward tne close, ‘when the street began to be deserted, obedient to fhe attractions of the forthcoming day, which ves exemption to all bankers, brokers and em- Pore We shall therefore have no stock or gold arket. to report in the usual way. There wore ‘mo facts developed in the course of transactions fenat call for comments additional to those which Muave been heretofore made. GAINS AND LOSSES. HIGHEST AND LOWEST PRICES. The following table shows the opening, highest gnd lowest prices of the day:— te York Central.. THE MONEY MARKET. Money on call, which on Saturday rated at2a3 per cent, to-day advanced to 4a 5, and, tn excep- ‘tional instances, to 6 per cent. Personal exigen- cies may have bad something to do with the sud- den change. they have not yet developed sufficient force to elicit intelligent comment. Foreign exchange closed quiet and steady at 4.83% a 4.84 for bankers’ 60 days’ sterling and 4.8744 for demand. The price | of commercial paper remains as nheretojore quoted, GOLD to-day ‘was stronger than usual, and advanced with ‘much exhibition of eveadiness to 1103. In the face vf the decitne of American exports and imports ‘the movement appears to be anomalous. Abroad, however, the gold market is materially disturbed by causes which are not explained by foreign finan- ‘cial authorities. The opening was at 110% and the Close at the price above named. The rates for bor- owing were 1.32 per diem until Wednesday and | Yrom 7 to 1 per cent per annum. Loans were made | Mat. OPERATIONS OF THE GOLD EXCHANGE BANK, ‘Gold balances... BEAL ESTATE, Sate of the New York Private Park Property. There were no transactions at the Exchange Salesroom yesterday, and the election excitement | is likely to distract attention from this market, at all events for the current week. Messrs. Potter Brothers report the sale on Satur- day of New York Private Park lots, adjoining Jerome Park, as fairly satisfactory. The extreme range of the prices realized was at from about. $3,000 to $6,000 per acre. The total number of lots knocked down was ninety-three, This would bring the average price of each at about $350, After the adjournment. of the sale (it had been announced that only a portion of the property would be disposed of) the auctioneer was solicited to sell spectal parcels at private sale, but this the agent of Mr. Opdyke dectined to do until he had consulted with bis principal. Mr. mit of a few of such selections tor private pur- chase, but still retains his intention of disposing of the bulk of the Rr perty to competitive bidders at public vendue. The result, it may be said, 1s re- garded by conservattve holders as, 11 not all that could be desired, yet certainly encouraging. GEEMAN IMPERIAL PINANOES.
