INTERESTING EXPERIMENTS, ‘Whe Power of Dynamite in a Great Con- Magration—A Thirty-Six Inch Brick Wall Blown to Powder. ‘The steamer Minnehannock, belonging to the feet owned by the Commissioners of Charities and Correction, left the Bellevue Vock, at the foot of East Twenty-sixth street, yesterday, at half-past three o’clock, with an excursion party of about 100 persons, among whom were Mayor Havemeyer, Fire Commissioners Periey, Hatch and Van Cott; General Rockwell, President of the Boston Ftre- Commission; the heads of the Philadelphia and Breokiyn Fire departments, Aldermen Morris, Guon, Healy and Clancy, of New York; Captain Byrnes, of the Fifteenth precinct, and a large amber of the members of the Board of Under- writers and clerks connected with the different ‘msurance companies, who were, of course, very much interested in the success or failure of the experiments that were ‘tobe made, The guests had been Invited to wit- mess the destruction of a number of brick walls which had been erected on the north end of Ward's Island, ranging in thickness from eight to thirty- |, #ix inches, These walls were to be destroyed by a ew preparation of dynamite, under the manage- ment of a company of firemen, who had been plexed from the Fire Department of this city, The Munnebannock arrived at the dock at Ward Island @t about tour o’ciock, and Warden Brennan, who had charge of the picnic party, saw all sae! janced on the barren upperend of the islan: Filty-six foremen and assistant foremen of te diferent batialions of the city were drawn up under the command of hief Engineer Eh Assistant Chief Engineer Sea ‘The walis of brick which were to be demolished were ten in number and weasured in thickness as foliows:—Eight inches, twelve inches, sixteen inches, twenty inches, twenty-lour inches, tury Leer thirty-two inches, Sourpe 8X inches and two walls of a building each twelve inches in thickness, that were joimed together by wooden as is scen in the /resbly built skeleton of a ‘ouse.
