Maynard was the favorite before the start and until four heats had been trotted, when Walsh went to the front at large odds over the fleld. Theo Washburn Maid, aiter wiuning the sixth heat, had the call over the field at odds, which continued to the end. THE TROT. First Heat.—One of the judges shouted “Go!” while another of them pulled tue bell rope for the horses to come back. Ben Mace would not stop, but went all the way around the track, while the ethers pulled up and came back to the stand. Ben Mace then claimed the race, but be was told by the judges that it was not 4 heat, and Ben then had to fail m with the other horses to try ms iuck a second time, Maynard took the lead at the start, ‘Walter S. second, Washburn Maid third, William Walsh fourth, Midaight fifth, Midnight, Walsh and Walter broke up on the turn and fell far be- hind. At the quarter pole, which was passed in 40 seconds, Maynard led one length, Washburn Maid second, three lengths ahead of Walsh; Midnight fourth, Walter S, Ofth. Rounding the turn Maynard took the front position and led Wash- burn Maid two lengths to the quarter pole in 39 seconds, and was the same distance ahead at the bulf in 1:17, with Waish three lengths away. Com- ing up the hill Maynard seemed to tire badly, 2 toat at the three-quarter pole only half a len; separated them. In the turn the Maid broke ba asshe did also at the drawgate, which gave M: nard the lead by haifa lengtn in 2:38%, with Walsh Jour lengths belind the Maid. Thira horses had a most excellent start, but going around the turn Washburn Maid broke up and tell to the rear. Then Walsh broke | up and ran in front of Maynard, cutting him off and necessitating bis going behind the mare. Walsh then took the lead to the quarter Pole, yet before be made the lower turn e Was passed by Washburn Maid. Waspburn Maid passed the hall-mile pole in 1:19, three Jengths aliead of Waish, the Jatter three lengths in front of Maynard. Going up the backstretch Waish closed gradually on Washburn Maid, and was lapped on her at the three-quarter pole. Fourth Heat,—The horses had a capital start at the first attempt. The spring races at Suffolk Park opened yester- day. THE FIRST RACE, Purse, $200; 3:30 horses; five started. Blonde ‘won the race in three straight heats. Time, 2:4), and THE SECOND RACE was contested by Milo C., Susie Kurtz and Lady Patterson. Milo C. won the race in three straight heats. Time, 2:334;, 2:364¢ and 2:36. This race was for a purse of $500, mile heats, best three in five, in harness, THE NATIONAL GUARD PARADE. ‘The spiendid weather yesterday afternoon con- tributed in no smal) degree to make the parade of the First division of the National Guard 8. N. Y. a@ success, Tne time appointed for the troops to march past ‘was half-past tour o’clocx, but long before that hour every available foot of standing room on the reviewing stand was occupied. The stand was placed on Washington square, at the entrance to Filth avenue. Governor Dix and staff arrived on the ground at twenty minutes past four o'clock. In front of the reviewing stand, and to the right and left of it om both sides of that part of Fifth avenue which runs through Washington square, the crowds of spectators were extremely aense. It was with much diMiculty that the police could keep back the people. Their pressure to the runs between the posts placed along the eastern side of the street gave way, and the crowd rushed pell-meii into the space in front of the stand, and defied fora time the efforts o1 the police to clear it, Up and down the avenue, and along the streets where the differeut regiments marched, and at the general rendezvous, on Madison avenue,’ the gatherings of expectant citizens were surpris- ingly numerous. ‘The line of march was taken up at four o'clock from the point @appui at Madison avenue and Thirty-fourth street, through the latter place to Fifth avenue and thence down to Washington sqaare, where the head of the column arrived at twenty-five minutes past four, the Governor and staff being already in their places. The Commander-in-Chief was attired in a plain suit of black, without any insignia of rank. The Annual Dinner of the Veterans of the Ninth Regiment. The third annual dinner of the veterans of the Ninth regiment came off last evening in the Spingler House in Union square. The tables were spread for about seventy-five guests, and among the invited were Lieutenant Governor Robinson, General Neison Taylor, General Duryea and General. flendrickson. The room was gaily decorated with the fags and banners of the regiment. After partaking of an excellent dinner the cloth waa removed. Colonel BH. VY.
