AS III THE KENTUCKY 3 2 ARY CONCERTS, ‘Those Concerts are given by the Trastees of the Public Library of Kentucky, under aaa ofa special act of the Legislature, and became a law Mareh 16, 1871, to es- tablish a great free Ubrary in Louisville, Ky Three have already been given, Tho frst, December 16, 1871, when $192,500, divided into 721 gifts, was dis tributed; the second, December 7, 1872, at which 1,000 cash gifts, amounting to $5550 000, were distribatea, and the third, July 8, 1873, when the sum of $500.00 in cash wns divided into 10,000 cash gilts and distributed among tie ticket-holders. The Third Concert and Drawing, which came off in Public Library Hall, July 8, was the most successful thing of the kind that hasever taken place in this coun- try. Tickets to the number of 100,000—all that were is- sued—were sold, and for some days before the drawing none were to be had except trom tltose who had bought to sell again on speculation. The capital gift of $100,000 was drawn by Mr. L. H. Keith, of Kingston, Mass., who purchased 11 tickets March 3, 1878, for which he paid $100.
