The report of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for the year ending June 1, shows the gross earnings to have been $12,736,606, an increase of $1,347,079 over the previous year. Of this amount $3,609,782 was derived from passenger traMic, $8,971,628 from freight, and $155,195 from miscellaneous sources. The operating expenses were $7,776,168. On construction account there was expended the sum of $4,459,720, and for equip- ment $1,438,013. The charges for extensions and new lines were $7,756,479.
