TOBACCO SMOKE. hte ns eli ees RE a “Rosa Concha’s” Bad Manners. New York, May 27, 1873, To THE EDITOR OF THE HERALD :— “Rosa Comcha,” whose communication appeared fm Saturday’s Huraup, may be a judge of good cigars, but he is certainly not of goed manners, “A Lady,” who represents a large class of the same mind, complains of the smoking at Central Park Garden, ‘‘Rosa Concha,” who also represents an- ether class (for the honor of our sex, I trust, a small one), says with a courtesy peculiarly hisown that if she don’t like it she should stay away; or else that she should go into that desolate little patch of sickly grass interspersed with pebbles ironically called a garden, and listen to the music as faintly heard in an “arbor.” But what would ‘Mere be to hinder ‘Rosa Concha” and his friends, af they got tired of monopolizing the concert roour «the Suly place where the music ean be decently heard), ne Fauntering out in the divection of the arbors, pulling tobacco sweke in the laaies faces and poutely intorming them, if they don’t like it, they “‘shouidn’t come so often!” “Rosa Concha’ has evidently beclouded his pe reeptive faculties by too much smoke and “sees through” it “darkly, He seems to imagine that the chief pleasure of going there is in the smoking, Now, reajly, I sup- Posed the chief attraction was in the music, What right have smoke:s to go there and practically close these concerts to a large share of the music Joving public, simply because they are so rudely Kelfish and so utterly disregardful of the rights of others? A concert room is not the place for smoking. There are plenty of people in New York who love music enough for its own sake and can listen to good music, without the necessity of makiug themselves disagreeable to their neighbors, JSUVENTUS, Cigarette to the Rese: To THz FpToR OF THE HERALD:— What I know about smoking. Not long agol noticed a lady smoking a cigarette in Central Park Garden. By her face I could see that she enjoyed “the pestilential smoke” as much as Rosa Concha cr Henry Clay. ‘The writer of these lines would like to Know what she thinks about smoking, and would be glad to heag that there Is at least one of ‘the fair sex Who favors music and cigars. CIGARETTE, One Night Each Week without Smok- ing. New York, May 28, 1873, To THE EpiToR OF THE HERALD:— I note im your edition ef this date sev- eral articles on “Smoking at the Central Park Garden.” I claim, in the first place, that it is a poor place to take ladies; but, if ladies must go, they can find ampie accommodations in the gallery of the Garden, If this plan fails to suit our lady friends it would be better to reserve one night each week for ladies and non-smoking gentlemen, Yours, &c., FLOR DEL FUMAY, — + MARRIAGES AND DEATHS.
