The object of this appoint- Ment, the committee said, was to decrease the umber of absences of teachers, but it had had the effect of increasing the number of absences. BROOKLYN SEWER ASSESSMENTS. ‘Jenn G. Leeds, a property owner on Third ave- nue, Brooklyn, is contesting the assessments for building the sewer on that thoroughfare on the ground that, the original contracter having failed to complete his contract, the work was given to one Keeny, without advertising, at an advance of $127,000. Mr. Leeds petitioned Judge Pratt, of the Supreme Court, to vacate the assessment, and the case came on yesterday.
