An association has recently been organized, un- @er the peculiar title of the “New York Dict Kitchen,” which proposes to accomplish a some- ‘what higher mission than the indiscriminate “slinging” of pots and kettles. Among the great- est drawbacks to the convalescence of the sick poor of the city is the impossibility of procuring suitable articies of diet skilfully prepared, The @ispensaries furnish an abundance of physic to the Bick, but those whom an empty purse compel to apply for medicine at these places are not likely to have a well-stocked larder or the most excellent ‘appliances for cooking. By the establishment of kitchens in all the exist- 4ng dispensary districts, to be under the supervison ‘ef competent cooks, every case of combined sickness and destitution may be reached, and the condition of the sufferers ameliorated. The very young espe- @ially falla prey to ignorance or poverty on the part of their parents, and it is designed to supply such invalid children with pure, fresh milk, or whatever food the physieian may specify. That ‘there is urgent necessity for this wholesome work the de phy yaicians of the Demilt, the New York and the Eastern, Northern and Northwestern dispensa- ries, all unite in claiming, while Doctors Hamiiton, Draper, Van Buren, Parker, Jacobl, Sands and a dont Of’ others heartily endorse the project. ‘Tue association is organized with Mra. A. H. Gib- Dons as President, Mrs. Robert Hoe as Vice Presi- dent, Mr. Charles L..Tiffany and Mrs. J. Langdon Ww: as Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer and Iars. Edmund Whitmore as Secretary.
