FINANCIAL AND COMNERCLAS, A LIVELY DAY IN ERIE. | Brisk Mutations in the Price of the Stock. Down to 51 and Up to 55 1-2. THE EXPLANATION OF THE RALLY. The London Eris Panic Averted and the | United States Accepting a Post- ponement at Geneva, pt GOLD RECEDES TWO POINTS MORE. The Money Market Easy at Four Per Cent. Governments “Of” a Fraction with tho Lower Ruling of Gold. The State Credit—The Canal Bonds To Be Redeemed in Coin. WALL STREET, } ‘Wapnespay, Juno 106 P, M. On'Chango to-day wheat wis fairly active and steady. The wheat market was heavy and lower, but atthe decline induced business, Cotton was quiet and unchanged. MONEY FOUR TO FIVE PER CENT. Money was easy, but without a recurrence of the 8 per cont dealings noted the previous day, when the pressure to lend late in the afternoon led to an | abnormal rate. The transactions to-day were chiefly at4 per cent, and entirely so when tho col- laterals were government bonds. On other secu- rities borrowers paid both 4 and 5 per cent, but the lower figure principally. In MEROANTILE PAPER @ tendency to lower rates is noticeable, although with even lower rates on call loans than now pre- vail the smallest discount has been 6 per cent. Sellers are disposed to dispute this minimum, and are holding out for 6 per cent, but only for prime short endorsed paper. Tho quotation Is, therefore, amonded to 5 a 8 per cent disconnt as the range of rates for everything in the way of prime, running alxty days to six months, FOREIGN EXCHANGER was {n better supply, thanks to a freer export movoment, but rates were nominally unchanged on the basta of (asking rates) 100), for sixty-day ster- ling and 110%¢ for sight bills. GOLD WEAE—113% A 113%. The more abundant supply of bills on Europe, the light specie shipment (for Wednesday), the amount being only $300,000, and rumors from Washington that tho government had consented to abide by an adjournment of the Geneva Conference ‘until December weakened the temper of the gold market, and induced a deciine of 113% to 113%. The old pool appear to be indifterent about the several influences operating against the maintenance of the premium recently, and give the impression that. they are able to take care of their interests when it suits them to move. Now that the outcome of July interest isso near at hund their idleness has cousirmed a belief that THB “SQUERZE” has been postponed until August, when the inter- ference from Treasury disbursements will be of little account, while the cotton exports will taper down to triviality. The Sub-Treasury paid out $89,000 on account of redeemed five-twenties, and $43,000 for past due interest, The course of the market is shown in the tabie:. FLUCTUATIONS IN GOLD. 118% «1 P.M In the gold loan market the rates ranged from 4 per cent for carrying to flat for borrowing.
