An Exciting Scene The Village Authorities Riot. On Monday afternoon Passaic Village, on the Erie Railway, was the scene of an unprecedented fracas, the history of which lively affair seems to be in purport as follows :— i Councilman Gilbert Bogert and Mr. Shulting, two prominent real estate operators, stood talkin; somewhat excitedly on a street corner in the cen- tre of the village, when their loud conversation attracted the attention of a crowd of boys, who gathered near to see the fun. Finally a big crowd assembled, when Bogert requested them to dis- perse, as it was only & private conversation. Sev- eral men imagined themselves insulted by this, and answered back somewhat impudently, which re- sulted in a scuttle, Dr. Terhune, the president of the village, just then came along in a carriage, and jumping out seized one of the combatants, to take him to the lockup. At the door the prisoner remonstrated with the venerable Doctor, when a lively time en- sued. The Doctor knocked his prisoner down, when a dozen men in turn pitched upon the president of the village and quickly laid him in the mud, whereby he was considerably bruised about the face and had his clothes badly damaged. The prisoner was, however, finally lodged in the lockup. In the meantime the scene of the original fracas became indescribably igs A Two or three men be- came engaged, under the idea that it was a free fight, and stones, clubs, sticks and all kinds of mis- Get Up a siles were brought into requisition in ad- dition to brawny fists. After the affair had lasted for ®@ considerable time, and nearly everybody involved had sustained a bloody nose or a black eye, the riot was ended by mutual consent, Four persons were arrested; but counter warrants have been issued, and several of the village authorities will be brought before the Grand Jury to answer the charge of assault and battery. It was decidedly the liveliest as well ag the most disgraceful riot that ever occurred in Pas- saic Village. 4 CASE OP HYDROPHOBIA. Coroner Herrman was yesterday called to Sixty: ninth street, near Tenth avenue, to hoid an inquest tthe remains of John J, O'Neil, late @ clerk in the store of Messrs Arnold & Constable, Broadway, who died in great agony on Sunday morning last. Some three weeks ago, while passing through Forty- first street, he was slightly bitten by a dog, but not in @ manner calculated to excite any sontshenaen On Friday last Mr, O'Neil complained of feeling un- well, and the following morning exhibited most de- cided symptoms of hydrophobia, Skilful medical aid was summoned, but the patient was subse- quently seized with convulsions of the most violent character, which continned up to the time of bis death, Deceased was twenty-three years of age, & native of England and unmarried,
