The Coach Blacksmiths, Steam Fitters, Organ Builders, Wood Workers, Tin and Slate Roofers, Planers and Moulders, Cioth- ing Cutters and Shirt Cutters. Alittle more enthusiasm was manifest‘ amo the movers in the eight-hour reform yesterday. New organizations have given |t an impetus, ands few retiring crowned with success have cheered on ‘the still struggling and aimoat ¢espondent ones. ‘The Eight-Hour League has shown the weakness of. organization referred to in the HERALD, some days mance in a striking manner. The pictofe-frame makers, who constitute a branch ‘of thdt League, have seceded, ‘and many of them have. returned “to work ‘umler “the old ~ system. % seems they demanded the financial managers of thecedttal organ-. ‘tesvion, when the latter were engaged in paying * the strikers of their body on Saturdiag, en aiowance ef $20 per week Yor eaoh man in,their Unton. The Finance Committee could not, with -their limited organs of visiek, perceive the justice’ ofthe claim, ‘alleging thatthe sum asked'for was greater than they, the frame ‘makers, could earn when working at their trade. The housesmiths are jubilant ‘over the capitula- ‘Mon of the firm:ef Jackson Brothers, employing | several huadred men. They mow~claim that only ene of the Jarger shops re’ 40 grant their de- mand. FiReen hnndred of them are reported as Row working under the eight-hoar rule, The uphotsterers have ceased to report. mee | bed mase of employers as having acceded to tl ‘ms, amd now talk bitterly of many of them as Krving diac im harged the men ef the Union. They We written agreements from the firms alluded 20, amd these, they say, have been repudi- ated, A deapatch received fromthe cabinet makers of Philadelphia announce their determination to ‘wtrikeon Monday next. The Rorsestiocts have many of them returned to work, as only.a few of the street car and stage — by whom they were employed resist ema. More than-one-third of the iron moulders, who Dumber about twelve hundred, are working but eight hours,.and it is generally believed that the aie willbe udopted by their employers volun- rily. Among the trades reported as about to strike are all the wheelwrigits, blacksmiths and workmen in the sewing. machine factories. The Women’s Typographical Union ts considering @ movement for pressing tle adoption of the new order of things, andewill undoubtedly unite in de- manding the reform. Meeting of the Steam Fitters, A meeting of the steam fitters was held last even- * Ing at Putnam Hall, Third avenue. The meeting ‘Was called for the purpose of organizing in order to co-operate with the Amalgamated Society of Ma- chinista in the impending strike. Delegates were appointed for that purpose, and after an address from a member of the Machinists’ the meeting eeparated. The Shirt Cutters to Strike. The majority of the shirt cutters of the city met last evening at 91 Walker street, and effected a ‘temporary organization for the purpose of demand- ing eight hoursaday. The chairman selected was Martin Brubaker ; the secretaries, Messrs. Joseph C. Darcus and Adolp» Wald; the treasurer, Edward Knickerbocker. About the total number of cutters in the city is one hundred and fifty; the number of shops, forty. Hepresentatives from most of the shops were present, and these stated that no difficulty whatever would be expert- ‘enced in getting the eight hours for a day’s work. ‘It was resolved to demand the eight hours on Mon- » @ay next, The full number of men working in each «. shop are to act as acommittee to announce the de- termination of the meeting to the bosses, and a committee of three was appointed to look after » Shoge shops that had no representative present _ Meyer Finny of Goambersstgue, to help the meu i leyer ol ra stroet elp the men in establishing the organization. Tho Clothing Cutters. The result or the clothing cutters’ strike has y, Deen a great success. At the meeting held on Sat- » €@rday night preliminary to the strike it was an- Bounced that more than three-fourths of the firms ~ etna men, trade had acceded to the is of the men, and in coni uence only it 200 men left off work on Monday morning. On fonday evening all the firms had acceded, with “the exception gf one or two, which gave in yester- , day,.so that t&e strike may be pronounced over. .
