SHOCKING CASE OF INHUMANITY. The Drowning of Peter Pilger—His Li‘e Snc- rificed Through Negligence—Culpable Con- duct of Deckhands on a Ferrybeat. Coroner Herrmann yesterday commenced an investigation {nto the circumstances attending the drowning of Peter Pil- ger, late of 129 Pitt street, on Tuesday night, by failing overboard from the steamboat Montague, of the Thirty fourth Street Ferry Company, while attempting to jump to the bridge.
