THE SERMON War delivered by the W. H. Turpin, of Bethel churey, New York. Propriate text, and the good will of the majority, if not the entire con- gregation. Mr. Turpin selected @ very a dedicate ta @ fine sermon the African Methodist Episcopal church to the service of the Lord. ‘The reverend gentletaan took for his text, Hi 4 it, “The glory of this latter house Shall be greater than of the former; and ta this Place will I give peace saith the Lord of Hosts.’? We have been striving, said he, for Many days to hold this church service in a dnilding of this ap- earauce and of these dimensions; und finally we | ve been successful in procuring it, To-day we gee two churehes under one rool—namely, the mem- pers of the old and members of the new church, whe simian , Seeing that we Wished to serve Him in this building as we have heretoiore, has through fatth, but with many hardships, helped us through our almost unbearable persistency. God is ood and God ts ‘lous, and ut should be our joys in the Lord. The Lord says in the text that “the glory of this latter house siiail be greater than oi the former.” Oh how we should pray to Hum it dt could not be so with our chu and if we do Ee in tne belfef that He will grant our prayer, 1 now it will be granted, “Asi aud ye sliall rocetve,”* @aith the Lord. “In tms place will 1 give pence Peace is the only thing that will make us progress a8 @ Congregation and as children of the Lord, SERVICES IN WASHINGZON.
