Expeaition of the Humbug tu Indianapolis, The Indianapolis Sentinel contains a long arti- cle giving an expose in that city of a number of spiritualists and their doings at a seance held on Tuesday night. The famous Dayton medium, the woman who has created such excitement by her spiritualastic feats, had arranged the seance, and instructed the medium in all the mystorics of the humbuggery. But with all their care and trickery the humbug was discovered and exposed. The Sentinel soys of the altgiri— The “‘circie’ fecling that they had what is in the slang versacular termed a ‘good thing” Hecame afflicted with the desire to show off their berg 4 the public, fae accordingly now and ng few invited disbelievers were inducted into the ‘holy of holy” chambers, where the geutle medium held converse with the spirits, the mod- erate sum of one dollar being charged the Gen- tiles as an admisaign fee. One evening last week a certain colonel in the late ‘onpleasaniness’’ was introduced jnte the tin cliamber, and in the course of a oonversa- ion with deceased ‘cuss’ who r- presented him- self ag baving in tho flesh been one John Ander- son, and a soldier during the war, had his suspi- cions aroused a8 to the genuineness of the little business, The colonel is not afraid of apirite on e average, and pro} reat many questions to the age tative of the ex-herg. ‘the ex-hero sald that when in the adipose tissue he had en- listed im Dayton for the wars, and had come to In- dianapolis to craw bis clothing, and stated that he had been killed in battle in Tennessee. In answer to a question as to what regiment or company he belonged to at the time of his untimely decease he said he was im none, and soon got mixed up ina maanner that justified the colonel in the belief that he haa, been @ sutler and had not got shot or killed at all. The colonel imparted his suspicions to a party of friends next day, and they at once concocted a lan to investigate the doings of the fair medium. Bocnring invitations to & seance which was to come off on Monday night the party provided themselves with a quantity of phosphorus matches and wero-on hand at the aard inted hour. According te practice, when all was ready for the appearance of the spirits, the arty present were grouped around the medium in a circie and the light extinguished, leaving the room in perfect darkness In a few moments the “artists” from ‘‘that pourne,”’ &c., began mani- festing their presence by tapping various ones in the party on the head. Thinking that the time for action had comea member of the party, a good-looking young law- er, quietly struck a match, throwing the room Lastoualy into the very light of day. Instead of all being ‘quiet on the floor” of that room the covery was made that the fair medium es haif bi ling in the centre of the circle, tapping a cer- tain ex-United States official on the top of his head with the horn which was used for the pur- se of conversing With the spirits. A scene en- §uad, resulting in the breaking up of the am Yesterday there were rumors of war aang, believers and disbelievers, but up to the latest accounts no blood had been shed. The believers in spiritualism deny the story of the visitors. But they are all young men of honor, and have good eyes. Disaj pear My from a Sail Boat. {from the Providence Press, August 30.) About haif-past twelve this noon a young woman appeared at the ‘al station and related the tol- story:—Two young men, named respectiycly James H.
