—_— THE SCANNEL HOMICIDE. Continuation of the Coroner's’ Inquost—Testi. mony of Thomas Donohoe~The Way the © Boughs Politely and Quietly do Things in. the Eighteenth Ward—That Man with the Gray Coat and His Nice Little Knife. The inquest on the body of Florence Scannel was | resumed yesterday before Coroncr Cornelius Flynn and his medical assistant, Dr, Shino, It was one of the most remarkable proceedings to be called a coroner's Inquest that has been held even in this clty forsome time. lt was in fact a trial where the ‘witnesses were put on the defensive throughout. Motwithstanding the protests of counsel political matters having no bearing whatever on the ultimate ‘Purpose of the inquisition were lugged in to such & disgusting extent that even the jury found fautt by yallng Out one of the political questions when its Propriety was submitted to their decision. Indeed the way in which politics were dragged into the Case Would have put to sbame any person but a coro. ner of the perioa, and no doubt iinpre:sed every in- telligent person present that one of the necessitics ‘of inquests nowadays is to have men to preside ‘over thom who understand what rights the law allows them and what rights it allows a witness, THB FIRST ANTE-MORTEM. ‘Br.
