Another daughter, also grown, managea to cris by way of the yard to a neighbor's house without being hurt, and she gave the alarm. Old Mrs. McLeod, their mother, was shotjin the arm and badly if not fatally hurt. The wounded daughter, in addition to being shot, was gashed about the head with a bowie kniie. ‘These were the opty persons on the plantation at the time of the butchery. The murderers, after accomplishing their bloody work, robbed the house, taking $200, a quantity of clothing, provisions, jewelry and valuables. The old men were buried last Friday. There have been no arrcsts as yet, though suspicion resis on certain des- peradoes in the neighborhood. ‘The indignation of the people knows no bounds, and the murderers, if captured and identified, would be lynched. The McLeods were peaceabie, high toned men and not thought to have an enemy tn the world, They were conservatives in politics, but moderate In their meins, The Shertif and otner authorities are very slow in Investigating the matter and endeavoring to ferret out the perpetrators of this flendish massacre.
