In one of Hartman’s ockets was found a palr of steel knuckles, which, it 13 belleved were placed tnere by McGrotty before the interference of the citizens who came up. The purpose of this was to give a com mpleslan to the affray, which would be advantageous to the alleged perpetrator. Coroner Burns was notified, and when he arrived atthe scene bldod was still oozing from the mouth and ears of the dead man. A post mortein examina- tion will be made and the ihanest will be hela to- morrow evening. Hartman was employed to take charge of horses in a stable at Lafayette; was about thirty-five years of age and unmarried. McGrotty was engaged In a similar occupation and {s about twenty-six years of age. AMUSEMENTS. UNION Lmaquz THEATRE—Mise ~ Aus Torr’s FAREWELL.—This estimabie artist and well known pianist was the recipient of a truly flattering com- plimentary testimonial tendered to her, on theeve of her departure for Europe, at this house last night. The auditorium was resplendent with full dress and fashion,and the floral presents to the fair béndyiciatre were of the most magoificlent kind. She played Chopin's “Scherzo in B minor,” Raffa “Oacbouca Espagnole,”” and Liszt’s piano transcription of Weber's “Polacca Brillante.” The last piece was the beat in point of periormance on the programme. Mr. Von Inten accompanied Miss Topp on tne Weber grand, giving Pfhlughaupt’s arrangement of the orchestra. The fair pianist played the fantastic and trying work with the brio and skill for which she is remarkable. Like the legendary Begs of the swan, hor last notes were her best, Mra. Imogen Grown was the solo vocalist, and gave evidence of @ veiy fine soprano voice, with aca cuitiva- tion of the same. Mr Levy played \@ COr- nei solos in bis vsual strident jlo lisplay- ing his wonderful executive power, without the expression and color that we look for even -in this instrument.
