The Kansas Pacific Railroad Litigation. An action has been instituted in the United States Circuit Court in which John C. Fremontis plait, andthe Kansas Pacific Railroad itigant. Plaintia alleges that in 1865, on the settlement of claims tos large amount held by plaintiff agaist aefendant, that a written agreement was entered into by de- fendant with plaintafl whereby the former promised so ua to plaintiff two hundred of the six per cent United States government bonds first to be iasued to the company under the acts of Congress providing for such issue, That when the bonds were for delivery they were dated four months later they should have been, and that by accepting them the plaintiff would lose the interest that should have accrued during that four months. That the company then promisea the plaintiff that if he would accept the bonds as issued in full settlement of the agree- ment the company would pay to the plaintiff amount of claim and interest from November, 1865. ‘The Butler Arrest Case. George Hofman, Davia Liedersdovf, Philip Ltedersdorf ant Henry Steaker.—In this case the defendants were charged with conspiring to defraud the government under the following circumstances:— Julius Raymond deposed that in September, 1868, he was part owner of a distillery at Nos.~102 and 104 Hester street; It was run in the. name of David Eilan, by the above mentioned defendants, The wiiness further testified that large quantities of spirits were illicitly conveyed from the distillery to @ compounding honse adjoining tt, there being an india rubber hose communicating. Warrants were issued on Tuesday for the arrest of the defendants. Yesterday morning they voluntarily surrendered themsely’s pefore Commissioner Shields, who ad- mitted them to bail in the sum of $5,000. The Fraudulent Personation of a Custom House Officer. The United States ve, Lalor & Kuhner.—The de- fendants, as previously reported, were arrested on the charge of fraudulently personating revenue officers, in that they entered the house of a Mr. Da- yerger, in Seventeenth street, and seized a quan- tity of silks, upon which they claimed the duty nad not been paid. The case has been several times, before the court. Colonel Whitley, of the secret service, testified that he knew Kuhner, who had often given him information reiative to frauds committed on the government, Moreover, that he (witness) had fre- quently told him that when he brought him any information of the kind he would satisty him. He beheved that Kubner had acted indiscreetly, put without any felonious Intent, since the goods were brought to bis former headquarters and delivered to @ proper officer. ‘The further hearing of the case was adjourned till Friday. ° Counterfeiting Government Checks.
