10 BROOKLYN = ‘GLECTION FRAUDS, “Preser'jing the Purity of the Si Ay Indictments Against Officials in the Brooklyn Departments for Alleged Election Frauds—Nearly All the Implicated Parties Arrested— Their Names and Other Particulars. Krooklyn was rather exotted yesterday, at least the politicians who make their living out of Brook- lyn were excited, which to all intents and purposes mounts to the same thing as far as the politicians wre concerned. The cause of the excitement was ahe completion of the labors of the Grand Jury which had been during the past month busily en- gaged in investigating the frauds committed at the late election, and about which such a virtuous hub- bub has been made in the newspapers. The tntel- @igence that the jury Would make their report at the opening of the Court of Oyer and Terminer was brulted about the strects ai an early hour, and the natural consequence was a “packed audience,” com- posed principally of small fry politicians and their seedy lawyers, when Judge Gilbert took his seat. During the transaction of the usual routive basi- ness of the court the highly periumed gen- tiemen Who sport huge diamond pins and velvet coats, and whe are known to the suffering Wixpay- ers as their city Jawinakers, endeavored the best wey could to kill time by betting on the question as to how many of the faitiful friends of the party, if any, would be indicted, and sanntering out into the hallways occasionally to talk over the impending danger to themselves and to “put up” the money @u the beis made in the courtroom. One of the Most instructive bets made in the hallway was made between two well known city officials on them- seives, and the perfect Knowledge each had of the other's cuaracter can be imferred from the fact that neither was wilkng to give odds An even number of greenbacks was, therefore, placed 4m the hands of a suniing and, doubtless, Tantaal irienxd who stood by during the discussion of the “preliminaries,” How the bet will be deciued is one of those questions which may yet forma fitting theme jor lawyers to palaver over before ome civil justice should the stakeholder prove too “neutral” ior either party, as # few moments alter the wager Was made the report of the jury gratiflea the betters with tne knowledge that they were both Indicted, THE GRAND JURY. Judge Gilbert, accompanied by Associate Justices Hoyt and Voorhees, entered the court about ten o’clock and took bis seat on the bench, The names of te Grand Jury were then called and answered to, ‘The following 13 & correct list of the gentiemen who formed this Jury, Which aeserves the tiauks of every weil meaning citizen for tne good work it @ccom- Plished duriug its sittings:— Occupation. presiden Fiour nee . Judge Gilbert took up the huge bundie of Lodici- ments, and, Without opening tuem, remarked that the Court Was aware the gentlemen of the Grand Jury had devoted a great dea! of time to an investi- gation of great pubic import and the thaaks of the Court and of the public at large were due to them for the avention they had paid to their duties, They would now be discharged, and the court would wand adjourned for the term. + _ District Attorney Morris tien received from the Court the mdicunents that had been found, with instructions to prosecute them at the earliest oppor- wuniiy. w .
