Alleged Embezzlement of Letters, Before Commissioner Betts, The United Slates vs. Ellen Hul—In this case the defendant was charged with empezzling a letter un- der the following cireumstances:—It appeared that the defendant and a girl called Annie Hero were servants together in aresidence up town, that the Jatier left the pouse, autuo rizing the defendant, who rewuined, to receive any ietvers that miglit be ad- dressed to her. A Mining Company Transaction. Richard D. Barclay vs. The Quicksilver Mining Company.—In 1965 Judge Jerem‘ah Black obtained a Judgment for $50,000 against James Eldridge, a stockholder in the Quicksilver Mining Company, a Pennsylvania corporation, Subsequently the com- ban (in order, as is alleged, to escape being taxed in Wo States) transierred their property to a corporation chartered vy the Legisiavure of this State, and of Which John K. BLONDIN AND THE KNIFE. An elderly, half-dressed, but intelligent look- ing man, woo sald mis name was John Bionda, was charged by Fanny Fitzpatrick, a lady with & tongue, with stabbing her in the breast with a knife on Saturday morning last. ‘The parties lived in the same tenement house, and the coin- lainant hired her room of the defeadaut. Miss Fitzpatrick said that a gentleman came to see her on we morning in question on business, and Biondin said he would not aliow eituer hin or her in the house, and turned her out. In the ailterca- tion he stabbed her in the breast with a knile, the latter passing through her clothing, wuich was ample, and scratehing the flesh. In reply to inquiries of the Judge Miss Fitzpatrick said she was not married and she had no desire to marry the deiendant, who was also unmarried. ‘1 have something else in view better tan that,” was the dignified maiden’s reply to the judiciai inquiry.
