The reports of the Kxecutive Com- Mittee and the Committee on Membership were re- ceived and adopted, and after several new members bad been elected the meeting adjourned, The asso- ciation was reported to be 10 a very flourishing con- dition, and expects to be able to do good service to the republican cauve this fall, The “Old Democratic Forty” of the Seven= teonth Ward. The German Democratic Club of the Seventeenth ward, known by the name of “Old Democratic Forty,” have lately reorganized by increasing their executive committee of forty to sixty members, The following are the oficers of the reorganized club:—Messrs. Christian Uhl, Presi- deat; Charles Richter, Vice President; J. F. Bau- mann, Recording Secretary; Christopher Fiecke, Cor- responding Secretary. ‘The following are aiso mem- bers of the committee:—Messrs, Joseph Schaefler, George Hertfelder, A. Cmprecht, Charles Bena- dinger, John Zahn, Peter Gommel, Chris. Reis, Nicholas Seeger, F.S. Muler, Bernard Hardt, Fred. Kaerth and other prominent citizens of the ward. The Executive Committee had passed a resolution to take the necessary steps to secure to the Germans a fair Poe y taper according to their numbers, of the candidates to be nommated for State, county and munictpal ofices, and another meeting was held at No, 197 East Fourth street last night, Mr. Charles Richter presiding. The mecting naving been called to order by the chairman Mr. Christopher Flecke made a speech, declaring it the firm intention of the eluo that may shall bave a fair and full representa- tlon among the candidates to be nominated by Tam- many Hall, and that im such case the club would willingly support the candidates of the general organization; but that if such consideration would not be shown them the ward orgc#ization would follow their own way at the ensuing election. On motion the following members of the Ls Committee were appointed a special comm! order to confer with Tammany Hall:—Measrs. tian Thi, Charles Richter, John Zahn, Chr. Flecke, Fr. Baumann, Nich, Seeger, John Lander, Jos. Gluck, Conrad Diehl and Henry Singer. Speeches were then made by Mr. John Sohaefer, who had been a delegate to the International Lavor Congress at Philadeiphia, and recommended the adoption of the platform of that congress by the meeting, which proposition was declared out of order by the chair- mau; also by Mr. Charles Kinkel and others, and it was resolved that the Committee of Conference re- port to the club at their next monthly meeting, GENERAL LEBIEUF, FRENCH MINISTER OF WAN. If the successor of Marsha! Niel lacks the reputa- tion for military ability possessed by that late head of the French war department he is not likely (0 prove a less obedient servant of the Emperor Napo- leon, General Lebceuf is, we think, either a son ora nephew of Louls Leboeul, who was a prominent po- lidician during the reign of Louis Philippe, and who, early in 1862, was appointed a Senator of France some months prior to the proclamation of the second empire (Dec. 1852). Of this, however, we are not certain, a3 none of the current biographi- cal records contain a sketch of the new Minister. In- deed, even of the spelling of his name there is no cer- rar fe a8 in some Volumes of the Almanac de Gotha we tind it spelled Le Boouf, and in others Lebceuf. He first appeared in an official capacity in 1800, when he was commissioned a general of division, and nero ald-de-camp to the Emperor, Pre- vious to this, however, he had served with credit in the artillery and engineer branches of the service, in g subordinate capacity, in the Crimea and Italy. He remained as ai Rare De 1864, when he was appointed chief of tne Advising Committee (Comité Consultauf) of the Artillery, which position he retained till promoted to the Ministry of War, as reported by the cable telegram published in yester- @ay’s HERALD, It will thus be seen that General Le- boul, though by no mean an obscure officer, cannot ravkin distinction with the Niels, McMabons, Canro- berts und Bazaines of the empire. That he ts cquaily as devoted to Napoleon is @ matter which admits of no doubt whatever. One of the most severe storms of the season passed over Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon. The thunder and lightning were terrific and the rain fell in torrents.
