Wraise of the Atlantlo Yatch , Club—Regaur, at New Londen—A Close Contest—The Wins nere—Preseatation of Prizes—Entertainw.ent at Fort Mott, New Lonpon, July 30, 1869, A more delightful morning never shone, The yatoba lay quietly at anchor the entire night, with their little lights beaming onthe water, But this mormng New London was astir, for the regatta ‘was looked forward to with much pieasure. ‘Tho sun shot forth ita dazsling rays, making the gentle ripples in the harbor sparkle like so many e@lamonds. The fect looked extremely pretty, aud altogether the scene was one of the most enlivening -@escription. Along string of handsome carriages ‘Were stationed in the vicinity of Fort Mott, whence &@ good view of the race could be obtained, while the rocks that jut out along the shore were thronged ‘with spectators. On the whole it was @ brilliant success, reflecting much credit on the members of the club as well as upon the donor of the prizes, Mr. A. H. Mot, The interest of the affair was centred im the race between the Madeline, the Gracie, Addie V, and Sadle. Tue Addie V., however, was unable to participate in the event, having sprung her mast carly in the morn- ing. The hopes of wie spectators were considerably Gisappointed owing to the accident which occurred to the Madeline, sie having, at a time when she had goime prospect of victory, broken her gaif and car- Tied away ber topsail and ouwmggers. The event ‘Was much jamented. The Gracie nobly carried off the honors of the day, and never did yacht bear away a prize wiih such distinction, It is not too much to say, theiefore, ig from her performance yesterday, that the racie 18 a credit to the country. The Lois won the prize for schooners, though there was a considerable Aunount of dispute about it, as Captum Sparkaaa, Ol the Mystic, claimed that the Lois ran fual of her when sbe (ine Mystic) was leading her. ‘The third prize was awarded to the Anna, and weli did she @eserve it. On the whole the regatta was a most creditable display. The following yachts appeared at the stakeboat prior to the start; Yacit. ames T. Lyman, ‘James T. Sparkman. weil, Dean & Cont ‘ou. Wan. By arrangement the Commodore lowered his pen- naot at five minutes to eleven o'clock, Which was the signal jor the preparatory gun from Fort Mott, ud ten minutes after the second gin announced the ktart of the entire feet. A fine breeze was blow! from the northwest, and the final gun having been fired auchors were weighed with rapidity and the band from Fort Mott struck up an appro- priate air, The schoovers Mystic and Lois were The first to get off, and both shot out on thelr course almost beam and beam, with nearly every toch of canvas epread. Tie Madeline, Gracie and Sadia, the three great competitors in the race, were somewha ¢ siow in their movements, and with the exception ot ine Corning and Marie were almost last. The Lois getting to the windward of the M passed her and went sijghtly ahead. She was subsequently passed by the Mystic, which kept the lead. The little While Cap, and after her the Storm King, next cashed forward in good style. Next in order were the Nembus, Richard Kelly, Orton, Sadie, Gracie, Madeling, Qui Vive, with the ions Bonita, Marte and Corning bringing up the rear. ‘The spectacie pre- sented ag the yachts clustered together waa very handsome, and not a littie exciting as commanders issued their orders With stentorian voice. “Lart a | little there | lnif a little !?
