Tt ia not known ofl- Mr. Lemus, it appears, is the ouly authorized oficial representative of the Cubans in the United States and holds his commission from Cespedes, the ackuowledged head of the revolution- ary movement. The latest ovicial communications ‘received from Cespedes show that the Cubans have fu confideuce in the ability and management of Mr. Macias, who is alleged to have su- perseded Lemus, is a private merchant, who has taken no active part in the revolution, 1 am informed, has had no conversation with Sen- ator Sumner whatever, and instead of entertaining doubts as to the ultimate success of the Cuban canse he has uniformly expressed his belief that the Cabans wonld drive the Spanish power from the dgiand and establish their independence. The Commissioner had a consultation with the Secretary of the Treasury to-day as to his power Under the law to remove supervisors at will for just cause, and it is understood they came to the conciusion that the Commissioner is manifestly guthorized by the law to make such removals, ‘With this understanding the Commissioner will in @ lew days remove several supervisors, For pru- dential reasons the names of the accusea oiicers ‘will not be made public for the present. The attendance numbered about 300 persons, and of those present all but pernaps twenty or thirty were professed be- iievers and followers of the doctrines of spiritual- ism. About a dozen male and female members, it 1s reasonable to suppose, have got spiritualism on the brain, at Jeast they have got it badly, and these were the persons who indulged themselves by tempt- ing gnouis or other invisibilities to stalk abroad over the lawne, protrade themselves by their mysterious workings into the midst of little coteriea of ola men and women aud young girls and youths, and take sundry liberties, to the detriment of the Park pro- prietor’s lager beer tables. In course of time these spirits who had been thus conjured up began to make themselves exceedingly familiar, and in one particular Instance the betting was even as to whether an exasperated immortal would or would not succeed in tossing an ugly woman off a bench, He, or it, backed dow, however, When the ancient dame was just about to throw up the sponge, and she was in consequence a victor of chance. But, to define, the pmo was announced to com- mence at nine o'clock A. M. No material interest Was awakened until noon, in consequence of the Umited attendance, and at two o'clock the ball was fairly opened by the audience assembling on the dancing platform to listen to addresses and vocal music. Mra. Adams, a medium-sized, dark.comptextoned and rather attenuated lady, was first introduced, and sang a spiricualistic hymn with certainly very wood taste, and with @ clear soprano voice, of good compass and power, Dr. HALLOCK, a chubby, jolly-looking customer, Was next announced, and, mounting a table, pro- ceeded to compare the enjoyments of other creeds with those of the Spiritualists, He argued that it was inconsistent m Methodists, Presbyterians and followers of other denominations to engage in such enjoyments as picnics and dancing, for the reason that their doctrines, the whole teachings of their faith, were such as enjolued mirth and amusement of this nature, But here were people whose creed did not torbid, but rather encouraged every species of enjoyment, moral, intellectual and physical, so long a8 confined within the bounds of de- corum and propriety, Even the children were welcomed to these festivals, and he thought it would be better if greater numbers of juventies were led to attend them, as it rendered them inore areas With the subject and Wdeas of Spiritualism, bot!
