In the midst of a driving rain storm the members ot the Grand Army of the Republic, the Independ- ent Volunteer soldiers, sailors and citizens this after- noon proceeded to the cemeteries here and decorated the soldiers graves with flowers. Although the main cemetery is nearly two miles distant, fully five hundred men, women and children walked thither to participate in the exercises. The proeeed- ings were opened with prayer by Rev. F. 8. Wheeler, after which addresses were made by Wil- lam Platto, Dr. Carter and Gen. A. B. Sumith, The benediction wag pronounced by Rev. Mr. Wheeler.
