Captain John 8. Young, so well known to the general public as the able chief of the detective force in this city, will to-day seud in his resignation to the Board of Police, thus severing his connection with the department of which he has been 9 member nearly twelve years. Although of late there has been'a great deal of talk tn certain circles about the causes which have led the captain to regard his resignation ae the most be- fitung answer he could, with honor to himself and due respect to his superiors, make to a certain reso- tution passed by the Board igst week for his especial edification, no reliable statement as tothe real issucs am the case has as yet been mage public, The story |’ is a rather long one, but will be found to be by no means devoid of interest. The question then ‘was, if he had’ bonds to sell how he could be induced to sell them just where I wanted him to. I finally found o banker down town, who, after being made, to understand my plans, consented to play & no important part m the game that was to be played to ascertain whether any of the bonds in the possession of the individua! aforementioned, were or not the bonds stolen from the New Windsor Bank. The ré’emy banker—as 1 ‘Will continue to call the gentleman who consented to play the part of purchaser of the bonds held by the suspected man—was, as I have previously intimated, one of great importance, His office was nicely fur- nished, well situated, in a business street wnere brokers most do, congregate, and everything about 1t denoted thrift and prosperity in bond transactions, Of course the more all tiie net the easier would | the fy be caught, and I knew the fy I was after was a knowmg one.
