Irish Repeblican Campaign Club. Last evening a meeting of this club was held at ‘their rooms, 195 Bowery. There were about thirty persons present. General D. F. Burke presided, and having called the meeting to order observed that ‘his was a political assemblage of Irishmen who aif- fered from the majority ot their countrymen in this city. It proposed to support Grant for President and Colfax for Vice President, The immediate objects of the association were to forward and promote re- publican ideas, and show the difference between them and those of thé democratic party, which he submitted was the enemy to progress and liberty. ‘The secretary, W. J, Hogan, then read a series of resolutions endorsing the platform adopted by the National Republican Convention as fairly embodying ‘she sentiments of the loyal people of the country on the at questions of the di and the stand taker! therein wigan te the yng eg pretens! land on the question of the matte of of naturalized eitizens and the determination to maintain the dig- mity Of the United Staves and the rights of its citizens at every hazard as conclusive evidence that the peateen purty was the friend of freedom and de- = served the none Sennoes of the naturalized citizens Fi er, e mee! ledge itaelf to sect election or Grant and: doing: cuavineed: tat = ability, poercion and eminent services of eacl entitle eietce le, ‘he Secretary also 1 - on behalf of the objects of the club. It stated ‘that the Irish people foliowed the leaders of the @emocratic party merely through prejudice, be not Decause the principies advocated tended towards the advancement of .the country. The address drew @ difference between the two opposing parties, and strong! advocated the adoption of republican as the Dest eniculated to devel i¢ interest of Irishmen, Having reviewed the entire course of the repubcan party before and since the war, it sity of weighing well the used in its favor a8 well as the points made against the democrats. On motion the address was adupted as a campaign document of the club, and two vice presidents having been elected the meeting ad- journed. Republican General Committee—The Preven- tion of Fraudulent Votee—Resolutions En- dorsing Grant and Colfax. The regular monthly meeting of the Union Repub- lican General Committee was held last evening at their headquarterters, No. 937 Broadway, southwest corner of ‘Twenty-second street. Mr. Andrew H. Leggett presided, and W. H. Drammond and Charies 8. Strong acted as secretaries. Mr. Hunr, of the Eighteenth district, offered the following resolution, which was referred to the com- mittee, with power:— Resolved, That the Executive Committee be directed to take measures in reference to the registry to be made next fal) vo that proper persons be employed to copy the lists of registry, so that a proper canvass can be made by the police whereby fraduient votes may be kept out at the next election. Mr. THomas, of the Twentieth istrict offered the follow! resolution, which was referred to the Ex- ecutive Committee:— Resolved, That the republican associations of the different Assembly districts be requested to forward to the secretaries of this committer, on or before the 15th day of next Augt tat of pames for ove-half of the odlcas of Inspectors ani canvassers of elections in their respective Assembly dis- tricts, with the view of enabling this committes to compile a complete jist in behalf of the republican party, to be sub- mitted to the Poitce Cowmissiouers for confirmation. It was announced that the republicans of the Sev- enteenth district would imaugurate their new cam- paign rooms on the evening of June 15, and that General Sickies, Horace Greeiey and other speakers would be present to address the meeting. Mr. W. P. Ricnarpson remarked that as they ‘were preparing for a grand, perhaps doubtful, cam- the committee ought to use its induence to we Congress, befure this session is over, pass a law to prevent the frauds in the naturalization of citizens, and the main cause y i that @ committee of we cnet pointed to draw up a memoriai to Congress, et such action might be taken as would prevent ‘the naturalization frauds. General CocHxaN thought a memorial presented to Congress now would not have the effect which = had by @ visit’ personally by (he committee the memorial. wv CHAnLES S. SPENCER believed that such a law was feasible, and that if tt were passed tive thousand or ten thousand fraudulent votes might be saved. In ene court alone where not more tian twenty-five persons had been seen over two thousand fraudulent votes had been counted, ‘This was the most impor- tant of all consideratious for the committee. Jaurs CUSHING remarked that ‘he fess noise that ‘Was made by the committee in pressing this matter defore Cor the better, aa the republican party Ro longer had a two-thirds majority there. ALEXANDER WILDER had no faith whatever in the integrity of the courts of (his city. The more noise a made on this subject the less courage the cop- cade would have to oppose the measure, ay was then resolved that such a committee be ap- pointed, with power to proceed to W ashiuston. Mr. A. J. H. Syivie, leader of the workingmen of Pennsylvania, writes as follows to the Deopie's Weekly, organ of the workingmen at Washington:— PHILADELPHIA, May 23, 1965. T have frequently said there was no hope for the industry of the nation in the republican party. That ‘Was clearly demonstrated at Chica Wall street Tu the whole concern, and bound the party body and fonl to the money swindlers. The platform adopted at Chicago is an insult to every workingmaa im the country and an outrage upon corumon sense, ‘They favor a reduction of taxation and recommend measures thai make any reduction in taxation an Amposaibility. ‘The great laud and Jabor reform is are ignored altogethor. ‘They pledge their “aympathy with all the oppressed people who are stroggling for their rights,” and repudiate the claiurs ‘of the oppressed poopic ai home who are stru wing \ for their rights aud starving while they struggle Letter from Senator Sumner. ‘The following letter, addreaved to a gentiewan in @olumbia, Is copied from @ South Curolina paper:— SENATE CHAMBER, Wasutnaton Ciry, Dear Sin-—1 have your letter of the 19th, tn refer- ence to the removal of your political disabilities. 1 am not sure that the hag has yet come to make ex- ceptions to our rai policy in individual cases. io do #0 would to open the door to innumerabie applications, and once open, it would be difficult w bit. Loring for Governor; then they will carry the elec- tion, sure! ‘The radicals in Congress have turned out the brave General Morzan from his seat and put in Blunder- buss Delano. Morgan’s sin was in having fought for his country and getting only about seven hundred actual majority in his district, It is secretly rumored in certain Washington cir- cles that Ben Butler is pushing his impeachment in- vestigation in the interests of the democratic party. There is no guessing what course he may take to make himself square with Grant, It took General Grant precisely ten minutes to write his letter of acceptance. That’s an important fact. “Eternal vigilance isthe price of liberty.” Pre- cisely. The eternal nigger is the price of white men’s lives in the city ot Washington, sorts of unten, even with the Lord, said, in a recent Grant-Colfax meeting in Albany, that “New York must be carried against the Roman Catholics even if New York city has tobe burned to the ground.” ‘That experiment was tried once and failed. Intriguing has already commenced in Washington in regard to the new democratic Senator from Ore- gon. Governor Curry is planting his outposts. ‘The Cincinnati Gazette defends General Grant for expelling the poor Hebrews. Colfax is not a printer, and never was. He was a Know Nothing. Hunnicutt has been acquitted. John Brown was hung. The political weeds in Georgia are fast disappear- ing before the moral Lespidesa striata, A writer in the Washington People’s Weekly advo- cates Farragut, Cary and labor against Grant, Colfax and the bondholders, The Nashville Gazette calls upon President Johnson for a proclamation of general amnesty. There are eighty negroes in the South Carolina House of Representatives. The hall is well venti- lated. Some people think the democrats committed a great mistake in not allowing Johnson to be con- victed, ‘The guards in front of the War OMice, Washington, have been removed by order of General Schofieid. The Newburyport (Mass.) Herald—conscrvative— comes out strongly for Chase. The St. Paul (Mion.) Pioneer wants to know why General Grant's resignation ts delayed. _Hé proposes: to fight it out on that line all summer. The Cincinuatl Chrontele (radical) acknowledges that Chase's prospects for the democratic nomination are brightening. The Chicago Times says the young men of the democratic party have a mission to perform. Not many of them, unfortunately, are qualified to serve as missionaries, A Wheeling paper says Senator Van Winkle never belonged to the radical party as it exists in West Virginia. That's fortunate for Van Winkle. A new democratic organ is to be started in Con- cord, N. H. Shade of Old Isaac Hill! It ts not stated who is to be the organ grinder. “Let us have peace” is the radical cry. hindering yout ‘The Dayton (Ohio) Ledger, Vatiandigham’s organ, publishes ex-President Pierce's recent letter, with the remark that it “marvels that im enumerating possible democratic candidates for the Presidency, he did not name Saimon P. Chase, who is quite as Much entitled to it as some of those he has sug- gested,” The Philadelphia Age, democratic, favors the nomination of Aea Packer, of Pennsylvania, as the democratic candidate for the Presidency, and thinks that in order to find a fit candidate it is not aeces- sary to go beyond the ranks of the democratic party. The Macon (Ga,) Journal, conservative, “in no spirit of partisan advocacy,” mentions the name of Fillmore as the eandidate of the democracy, who would command the united support of the consery- atives, Who's n Staie Convention of West Virginia sbury op the 26th alt., A. Grant and Colfax, it is stated, will start for Colo- rado about the ist of Juiy—to “hunt the wild baf- falo.”” A writer in the Baifalo Courter describes the ‘ole cegenation resolutions adopted at Chicago as “a remi-radical-don’t-care-to-speak-out-because-there’s— a-nigger-in-the-fence piatform.”” such around of oMces as Governor, United States Senator, Secretary of State, Minister to England, Vice President and President. has nominated the following ticket:~For Gov- ernor—William Ff, Stevenson, of Wood. tary of State—James M.
