As it now stands it has a depth of eighty feet on Frankfort stroot, a front of “ehty-fivo feet on Nassau street and a height of eighty foot, 729 Oxterior Is rather imposing and unique, two beauties » ih have been compassod by the very simple addition of wt Mansa roof, which ts at once the most graceful and usual of aif modern inventions for buildings, According to the tradition of tho oldera tn thp nows- Paper business, the upp. story is to bo used as 8 com. posing room. It is sevent,” foot long by sixty in width, ‘and includes the whole area \ tha upper floor, with tho exception of the space taken up’ by the atairs, Twonty- two stands, with twelve cases of typa for each stand, constitute the furnishings of this (foor—te which must bo addod the incidentals of the prosf-read tng room, in the novtheast corner, and a room for stereoty, ing, which will occupy # few further square footof sp.rce, The room is exce¥ently lighted, and most comple.‘ely ana easily ventilated, draughts of air being attainable* from every direction, . Descending a siwgi@ story, the explorer finds him volt vis-a-vis with the’ superintendent of the jobbing depa."- tent, which i9.one of the most completely eqatpped in? thecity. This whole oor (seventy by sixty) kas been given up tothe useof the general public, The equip- pings of the departmons consist of ten double stondg of twenty-two cases oach; four single stands of eleven cases cach; three Hoe's cylinder presses, and the nvinor ixtares needful. ‘Throo thousand five hundred dol- lars have boon expended Cor type in this department, ant fourteon thousand havo besa expended for proases and other fixturos, The noxt story (bolow), which is tho third story counting from tho grouad, contains the editorial rooms and tho job printing stock room—the latter being in dimensions about thirty-five by sixty fect, fronting on Nassau streot, running back, The editorial rooms are after the usual tashion, though of better finish than the {mprovised colls generally usod for the purpose and tormed editorial rooms by courtesy. Mr, Dana's room ‘bas been plainly though rather elegantly furnished, and ig located on the corner of Frankfort and Nassau atreets. ‘The apartmeata to be devoted to the ‘subs’? are dis- posed one after anothor in the rear and all frout on Frankfort street, ‘hough simul, they aro pleasantly lighied, and will not suffer in any respoct by compari- son with the general average, Mr. Charles A, Dana, per. lector of the enterprise, will be tho active manager of this department. ‘Tho second story, a large room seventy foot by sixty, is to be rented, either in its present form or partitioned to suit the wants of several tenants, On the first story {s located tho business office, is not yet sufliciontly completed for detailed description, The counting room hasafront of thirty-flve foot on Naseau strect and au extension of sixty feet on Frank. fort sirect, and it is intended to make it, in compiote- noss of equipments, one of the finest m the city, The general entrance in front leads dircetty to the counting room on tho left. The remainder of the first story will be parti‘ioued so as to form a couple of ex- collent stores with from twenty to twonty-live feat front on Nassau street and a depth of sixty fet, running back to the long corridor partitioned of paraile! with the rear walland about ten feet in width. This carridor con- which nects the Frankfort street entrance, which is for the general uso of editors, reporters and othor employos, with the staircase at the southeast in corner of the building, Tus stalrease conducts rogalar gories from story to story, ouding with tho con posing room On the second floor no corridor haz beou partitioned off, none being noeded; but on the third story the corridor is agaiu coutiaued, The whole atcangement (and plan) Is of the utmost simplicity, and is worthy of imitation, wince so many of New York's newspaper buildings seem rather to lave been planned as labyrinths to puzzle than as edifices for coaveyiont transaction of business, ‘Tho basomont story is to be ronted for business pur- . The huge thirty-five foot holler has crawied away under the pavement of Frankfort street, while for the Press room another excavation has bean made, running Out from the othor side of tho buitding. The press room 1 of sufficient size, being thirty feet by forty-seven, and is well lighted, rom floor to skylight tho extreme height is forty foe. One six cylinder Hoe’s pi 33, two Ballock’s presses and acouple of Root’s patent engines completo the equipments hore, Tho boil the kind known iatriaon's patent, Tue celiar wil! bo purposes, The vault, which (s gon- the finest in the city, has aot used for stora,; orally pronounced on been assigned to any fal use, ewera, Cb 3 A. Dana and confrires will take powession of tue Sur office, at the old place of shining, an Saturday next. The paper will continue to be, as horetofore, a two-cent morning daily, and no alteration will for the present be made fn its general appearance, though there isa likelihood of some little alteration in its politics, ‘Tae organization of tho staif Is nob as yet completed, and it i# probable that moss of the old stat of subordinates will be rotamned forthe provent., Tt ts proposed to romove the office to Tammany Halt wvout the middle of the month, CITY POLITICS, aries=Election of the General Committes for 1565.
