NEW YORK HERALD, FRIDAY, THs WATERING PLACES. SARATOGA SPRINGS. SPECIAL CORRESPONDENCE OF THE HERALD. Saratoga Srrevas, June 19, 1867. ‘This great head centre of fashionable frivolities, flirta- tions, fops and flunkies, has just undergone @ thorough brashing up in anticipation of the ‘approaching season of 1867. Congress Spring Park, with its secluded walks, Deautiful shade trees, remarkabie marble statues and more remarkable flirtation stools, has been improved by the laying out of new walks and the introduction of ad- ditional trees, By the by, those alarming marble figures have just perfected their summer toilets, having been thoroughly scrubbed by small boy, who, with » nail brush, as we passed him this morning was most vigor- ously polishing off ‘Ajax Defying the Lightning,” or ‘anything else you choose to call the very melanchofy gentioman who, with one hand grasping his back hair or waterfall, and the other hid in breast pocket, looks with @ most: beseeching expression toward Congress Spring, as if imploring one of the dip boys for @ drink. The people of this apr itiay section have is gen- erally settled upon the policy as advocated in our col- umns—~—a policy supported by the larger and more influ- ential portion of the press of this State. At one time, indeed, when it was urged vehemently by those who held aloft the banuer of the Sherman bill, that under its dark folds we might secure ourselves, that this bill was a finality to Congressional persecution—that when we drauk this dose our dead States might live again—the faith of many grew weak, and they felt sorely tempted to depais from the’ straight and narrow path into tho broad way that leads to destraction. But wiser counsels have prevailed, and the arch radical bimself coming out and dociaring that the Dill was no condition of the readmission of our States, that this was not the temple in which we could take refuge, bas broken the film that was gathering over our eyes. There has been arevulsion in the public senti- ment. Many who were tempted to desert the path of principle were brought back, and those who went not astray felt reassured. The peel we say then, seoms to be generally adopted in of the country—that whil mupaba rariaieirtg seers” ourselves the power of oe our votes must be cast against a convention ‘that shall have for tts object the adoption of the prin- ciple of the Sherman bill. bcbg he, the subject; but this is the calm and settled ‘the majority of that portion of our peopie wi phe lie or radicals, the same paper. man accedes the policy'‘aud wisdom of it we fear there is som: we wore invaded by acom- mon foe, Weare invaded now by foes, not open and brave, but mean and beeen Aeeeanrepe tore rab and are trampling under A correspondent of the Vicksbu! writing from Calhoun Station, under date of June 8, as the total who CITY COURT OF MOBILR—JUNE TERM, 1967. ye ed a Hexuy Cmampercaty, presiding in said The Grand Jury for this term deem it for the public gond to embruce the following statements in the usual Teport required of them upon subjecta which of ne- nen tren 9 im the discharge of their du- THE LATE RIOT. jury beg leave to say that in the of their it to make inquiry into the the public peace jpon the occasion of a recent public meeting in this city.
