Yesterday was a time of careful preparation upon the various vessels entered to take part in the Regatta of the New York Yacht Club, Which is to come off to-day; and the elaborateness of these preparatory overbaulings clearly proves that this will be one of the most success- ful meetings which has ever beem held under the aus- pices of the club, Several of the contesting yachts have taken up their moorings opposite the house of the Hoboken Yacht Club, in full view of the passengers whom pleasure or business may lead to cross the ferry to or from this city; At this anchorage may be seen the Widgeon, the pro- perty of Rear Commodore Phoenix; the Henrietta, Vice Commodore J. G, Bennett, Jr.; the Palmer, Captain Loper; the Josephine, the late property of Mr. Devlin, deceased, and the Whitewing, owned by Mr. Homans, Off Jersey City is also moored the Rambler, owned by Captain Fearing, The appearance presented by these vessels as they ride at anchor, gently moving on the surface of the is very picturesque, But few persons pass them without an exclamation of admiration as they look upon their bright, clean masts and spars, their beautifully proportioned Bale, and their neatly furled snowy canvas. As they sit upon the placid water in all their beauty of symmetry they conjure up in the mind all sorts of similes, now appearing like snowy sea birdi poling omeelres ere nod Krag er fight; - again, like gentle ounds impaticntly waiting for the word which shal: art them one eee To-day the canvas will be unfurled to woo the favoring breezes, and the eful vessels will present another but not less beautiful spectacle, as instead of remaining stationary on the water's surface they will part their “native element,” ploughing their way through and casting it on each side of their quivering bows, If the day is fine the sport will be good andthe races very exciting, numbering its spectators by the thousands, ENTRI ES, The entries for the regatta comprise many of the fleetest vessels in the squadron.
