Harrrorp, March 20, 1867. Uncertain and changeable as political events frequently are, itis rarely one will see such signal changes in any partisan contest in this country as is now certainly going on in the State of Connecticut. Travel in almost any Congressional district, and you will hear of prominent republicans either openly avowing their intention to vote against the radicel nominees, or privately writing letters to that effect, Whilo this is notorious in regard to the republican candidates, the reverse is the case with -the democratic nominees. We do not hear of a solitary demo- cratof any prominence going over to the republicans, but the list of republicans who are now classed with the democrats is already quite large, and the number is swelling rapidly. In this disimct the war domocrats (including hundreds of the employés in Colt’s Armory), who went for H. C. Deming for Congress last year now oppose him, and go for Hub- bard for Congress and English for Governor, Hartford is set down by the democrats as sure for their ticket by atleast five hundred majority, which will be sufficient to overbalance the republican majority in Tolland county, which is embraced in this Congressional district, and allow a bandsome margin. The vote for Governor in the First Congressional district last year stood as follows :— FIRST CONGRESSIONAL merger Gogh “Hees 319 rar 2 “a With the estimated democratic gain of 500, the district will ye Hubbard (democrat) 362 majority oh the Ist of SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT.
