The ‘bull’ interest controls the course of railway shares, and (ue “bears’’ are reluctant to put out fresh contracts in view of the prospect of extreme monetary ease and the probable increase of the earuings of the roads during the remainder of the year. Money is still superabundant at four per cent, and the exceptions at three are increasipg in about the same ratio that those at Ove decline, The supply of commer- cial paper is very light, and the best grade passes at 6a 3 percent, At the same time there is no perceptible dian of currency westward, At the open board at ton o'clock tho market was steady in tone, and prices showed a slightly improving tondeney. At the first reguler board the market was moderately active and somewhat firmer, New York Central closed 3 higher than at the same time yester- day; Erie %—preferred 34, Hudson River 1, Reading X, Rock Island 3%, Northwesiern 3g, Fort Wayne 34, Chi- cago and Alton 4, Atlantic Mail 114, Mariposa pre.erred 44, Western Union Telegriph 4g. Michigan Southern was lower; Ilinois Central 34, Cleveland and Pittsburg 34, Cieveland and Toledo 4, Maripoa common 14%. Gov ernment securities were neglected but steady, Stato stocks were dull, Tonnessee Sixes, new, were 3¢ lower; North Carolina new bonds 34. Peto, to explain, Sir M.
