Great Crevasse in the Mississippl—De- arture of General Scott for New York— The Methodists of New York and Lou- eae New Oneans, April 7, 1866. ‘There is a great crevasse at Chennes levee, West Baton Rouge. The whole parish is overflowed, Extensive @amage is feared. ‘Mie crevasse below this city is being repaired, The rear of the city is flooded. The British Steamship Company and merchants of this ity are drawing up a memorial for the deepening of the ecean passes. The memorial calls upon the Western Chamber of Commerce and the federal government for aid to carry out this enterprise, the foreign trade having ‘outgrown the former channels and ships of the heaviest @rayght now being necessary to carry it on.
