/ 2 / NEW. YORK HERALD, SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 1866.—W1ITH. SUPPLEMENT, = MERCIAL. FinanciaAND_COMN F FapaY, March 2—6 P, M. ot has shown diminished buoyancy to- Cgeof certainty—to immediately use the power con- upon him by the last Congress to reduce the cur- sooy, and a telegram tothis effect was sent to one of the /evening journals from Washington. If this report had / any foundation in fact it would imply that the Secretary of the Treasury was disposed to avenge a supposed slight, by an ill-advived measure, at the expense of the nation; but the authority conferred by existing acts of Congress gives him go little, control over the currency as to leave him powerless for evil even if—which we have reason to believe he has not—he had a disposition to resort to dangerous experiments; else why have asked for the powers embraced in the Morrill bill? Specific Jegisiation is asked for by the country, and n0 financier can question its advisability. Probably no one would be quicker to contradict the report to which we have alluded than Mr, McCulloch himself.
