Gerard Hallock, the Americam Jour- nalist, We anvounced on Friday last the demise, at New Haven, Conn, of Mr. Gerard Hallock, formerly one of the pro Prietors and editors of the Journa! of Commerce of tle city, and who, at one time-—more than a generation ago, however—had ihe reputation throughout the country of Veing not only au able editor and writer, but as one of the most enterprising journallateof America. Thix repa- tation resulted from bie connection with the Journal of Commerce, which at one time, in the hands of bimevif and David Hato, not duly exercised a considerable in- fluence ow political parties, but stood first among the nowspapers of the country at that period. Mr: Hallock’s history is the story of early newspaper enterprise in this city, and will be found to be highly entertaining.
