CITY ELECTION. JOHN T. HOFFMAN MAYOR. Ricnard O’Gorman Corpora- tion Counsel. LARGE VOTE FOR ROBERTS. HECKER AND GUNTHER DISTANCED. ‘THE MAYORALTY VOTE BY DISTRICTS. YOTE FOR CORPORATION COUNSEL. “IST OF CANDIDATES THE NEW COMMON COUNCIL. ELECTED. The election for municipal officers yes‘erday ~was very animated, the excitement ¢entering salmoat wholly on the different candidates for Mayor. By the figures given below it will be eseen that although Mr. Roberts, as the standard bearer of the republican party proper, polled an vextraordinarily large vote, he was defeated by his more formidable antagovist, John T. Hoffman, who, by virtue of a fair plurality of the votes cast, will assume the functions of Mayor of the metropolis on the Ist of January next. “The result shows very plainly that the leaders and wirepullera of the Mozut Hall faction, after ‘having become convinced that their favorite candidate, John Hecker, had hardly the ghost of @ chance, slid over to Tammany, and thus el -cted the nominee of the Ola Wigwam. The op- position to Mr. O'Gorman for the office of Corpo- ‘cation Counsel was so small that very little interest “was manifested on that portion of the ticket. The democrats, as will be seen, continue to hold their mumerical strength in the city, but,t! rough divisions | sand subdivisions in the party, the republicans have umanaged here and there to slip a man in fora inor office.
