Ow THE BEACH. It is probable that one'ef the finest views of the sea is obtained at Long Branch. The sea roare and foams and boils for miles along, and the eye of the beholder takes in a grand scene. Far, far out into seemingly un- fathomable space the pean stretches. Not # glimpse of land interrupts the view. Yaclits, with snowy sails, which seem in the distance as white’winged seabirds, flit along the surface of the water. Occasionally ® large vessel, perhaps an emigrant ship, may be'seen: far away, proceeding towards New York. The beach is the favorite walk of the visitors here; in the morning the bathers frequent it, while those who do not care to bathe while away the time reading a novel (if a lady), or, if one of the sterner sex, smokinga cigar and staring intently at nothing. Covered seats have been erected’ all along the shore, which prove of great accommoda- tion. Towards the evening the crowd increases, and one or two bands make tho air resound with the music of our first conrposers; gay promenaders stroll along, flirt and talk nonsense, or philosophy, as the case may be. Twihght, however, when night begins to cast her mantle over nature, is the proper time to visit the beach. Tho moon's light is sufficient to show one where he is walking, but not so bright as to ena- ble one to distinguish the faces of the happy couples, who, arm in arm, whisper softest words in one another's ears. This is just as it should be, and if it J aMPROVaMENT IN THE PRESIDENT’S HEALTH. “The health of the Preside nt improves steadily, and he ‘Bopes to resume his office work to-morrow No Cabinet wmeoting was held to-day THE OHOLERA IN ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT, ‘Consul General Hale, at Aloxandria, Egypt, in an sMicial despatch tothe State Department, gives a vivid spicture.of the ravages of tho cholera in that city.
